NEW DELHI (India CSR): Biocon Limited and its subsidiaries, Biocon Biologics and Syngene International, have demonstrated remarkable dedication to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by investing Rs. 31.54 crore in FY 2023-24. Guided by robust CSR and ESG frameworks, the group focused on critical areas such as healthcare, education, rural development, environmental sustainability, and women empowerment, directly impacting over 3.75 lakh beneficiaries.
The CSR efforts of the group were spearheaded by distinct committees—Biocon and Biocon Biologics maintain independent CSR and ESG Committees, while Syngene’s Stakeholder Relationships and ESG Committee oversees its initiatives. Leadership from experts like Naina Lal Kidwai, Independent Director and Chairperson of CSR & ESG Committees, has further strengthened Biocon’s commitment to impactful CSR initiatives, company’s annual report revealed.
A Breakdown of CSR Investments
1. Enhancing Access to Quality Healthcare
Biocon Group spent Rs. 3.65 crore in FY24 to improve access to healthcare services. This includes investments of Rs. 0.44 crore by Biocon Limited, Rs. 0.60 crore by Biocon Biologics, and the remainder by Syngene. Through targeted healthcare programs, over 1.3 lakh individuals benefitted, addressing essential health services for underserved communities.
The group focused on early disease detection, preventative healthcare, and community outreach programs to reduce health disparities and support vulnerable populations.
2. Promoting Quality Education
With a substantial allocation of Rs. 10.68 crore, education emerged as Biocon’s largest thematic area for CSR. Biocon Biologics contributed Rs. 1.07 crore, Syngene invested Rs. 5.78 crore, and Biocon Limited invested Rs. 3.83 crore. These funds supported access to education for underprivileged children, skill-building initiatives, and digital literacy programs, directly benefitting over 2.25 lakh students across India.
3. Women Empowerment and Rural Development
The group allocated Rs. 2.51 crore to rural development and women empowerment projects. Around 16,570 individuals benefitted through programs designed to uplift and empower women to contribute to their families and communities.
