The Indian government has launched a campaign called “The Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana”. This new scheme provides free electricity to one crore households in India. They just need to put a solar electricity unit on their roof.

The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana has various benefits for the people of India. Here are some benefits of this solar scheme.

  • It lowers your electricity bills
  • It is energy-efficient
  • It has low maintenance 

Who can get the benefit of the scheme?

The solar scheme is beneficial for residential consumers who want to install a rooftop solar at their home. This scheme is only available for residential consumers. 

  1. Homeowners: Individuals who own residential properties can benefit from the scheme to improve energy efficiency and reduce utility costs.
  2. Landlords: Property owners renting out residential properties can also take advantage of the scheme to enhance the energy efficiency of their rental units and attract tenants.
  3. Businesses: Commercial establishments aiming to reduce energy consumption and operating costs can benefit from the scheme by implementing energy-efficient upgrades.

  • Under this PM solar scheme, the government provides a subsidy to install solar panels. The amount you get ranges from Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 78,000, depending on how big is your solar system. 

How to apply for the scheme?

To apply for the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana you need to follow some steps which are mentioned below.

Step-1 Register on the portal with the state, district, electricity board, etc.

Step-2 Login with your registered number. 

Step-3  Wait for the approval of the DISCOM. Once the feasibility gets approved then install the plant by the registered vendors in your DISCOM.

Step-4  After installation of net metering and inspection by the DISCOM, they will generate a commissioning certificate from the portal.

Step-5 After getting the commissioning report, submit your bank account details and a canceled cheque through the portal. You will receive your subsidy amount in your bank account within 30 days.
