KORBA (Chhattisgarh): Vikas Sharma today joined Vedanta-controlled Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO) as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He will be responsible for securing current business performance and will focus upon the foundation for future growth, sustainability and further enhancing the BALCO corporate brand and making BALCO a great place to work.
Sharma was warmly welcomed by senior officials – Major Kumud Kumar (Head Human Resource), Deepak Prasad (Head-Aluminium Business) and G Venkat Reddy (Head-Power) besides other officials.
Sharma offered prayers at Sri Hanuman Temple inside the premises of the 1200 MW power plant before attending the welcome formalities.
During his welcome speech, Sharma urged the senior officials to leap ahead on the growth trajectory and continual progress while keeping safety, unity and integrity as priorities.
Sharma is known as a result-driven individual in the industry with experience of over 28 years in various national and multi-national companies. He holds the experience of serving HMT, Praxair, JSW and AMP in various key positions.
A mechanical engineer graduate from Kota Engineering College, Sharma took over as Location Head of Chanderiya Unit of Hindustan Zinc Limited in 2012 and was gradually elevated to the position COO Smelters. During his tenure, he played integral role in the growth of the company and made significant contribution in smelter production besides building harmonious relations with stakeholders.
Sharma also holds MBA (Marketing) degree from Sikkim Manipal University.
“With contributions, cooperation, desired mindset that works on mutual understanding, harmony, and adapting to change for right reasons, I am sure BALCO will scale new heights in the coming years”, Sharma said.
Sharma has a deep interest in literature. He takes special interest in sports and cultural activities too. He is happily married to Anita Sharma and they are blessed with a son, Aviraag Sharma.
