JHARSUGUDA: Sesa Sterlite Ltd., Jharsuguda embarked on a week long road safety awareness campaign from 11th January to 17th January 2015 to promote and inculcate road-safety consciousness among drivers, helpers, labourers, plant personnel and the community members at large at its plant premises.
Today, the campaign began with a road-safety rally led by Abhijit Pati, President & COO, SSLT, Jharsuguda wherein more than three hundred plant personnel, employees from partner agencies, drivers and labourers took part. The team walked down to the observation venue which was later inaugurated by JK Mohanty, Head CPP, Venkat Reddy, Head IPP and KA Chowdary, Head Smelter II in presence of a huge gathering of employees, drivers, helpers and labourers. At the venue, safety pledge was administered to the attendees. Afterwards, senior management from the SSLT, Jharsuguda shared their experiences and urged all to obey road-safety norms in and outside the plant premises.
During the occasion, DK Singh, Head Health-Safety-Environment & Sustainability, SSLT, Jharsuguda stressed upon the need to make road-safety a habit rather than an act out of compulsion to follow the rules. He also added that in the last few years, SSLT Jharsuguda has raised its bar on road-safety practices and will continue this effort further.
During the week-long programme, more than 300 truck drivers will be trained by IRTE, an agency which is an expert on road traffic training. Through a CSR campaign, about 500 school children from the periphery schools will also be trained during the campaign. To bring awareness to the plant personnel and the community at large, pamphlet distribution through ‘Sadak Surakshya Rath’ will be conducted in and outside the plant premises.
The inauguration ceremony was coordinated by Mr. SK Srivastava, Head Fire and Safety, Smelter II and safety team, SSLT, Jharsuguda in cooperation with the plant security team.
