BENGALURU: Embassy Group, India’s Leading Real Estate Developer, has continued its support of the Bengaluru City Police as the number of positive cases of Covid-19 rise in Karnataka, by donating 4,500 face shields and 8,000 re-usable gloves for traffic police personnel, at the cost of Rs. 15 lakhs. The critical protective equipment was handed over to Hon’ble Shri Basavaraja Bommaih, Home Minister, Government of Karnataka at Town Hall.

Many of the Bengaluru Traffic Police are succumbing to the virus amidst rising cases in the city, with close to one-third of the 4,500 Bengaluru Traffic Police personnel infected. With a lockdown instituted in Bengaluru, police personnel are on the frontlines attempting to contain the pandemic, putting in longer work hours and facing strenuous physical requirements. The donation of protective equipment will be utilized towards ensuring that members of the police forces will be able to conduct their duties at the frontline while protecting themselves.

The face shields and re-usable gloves will be distributed over an 8-day period to 44 police stations and 3,800 personnel.

Dr. B.R. Ravikanthe Gowda, IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Bengaluru, said, “On behalf of the Bengaluru Traffic police, we are continually grateful for the unceasing support from Embassy Group over the last year. As our personnel are on the frontlines, discharging their duties and ensuring that citizens are adhering to the state-wide lockdown, safeguarding the health of our personnel and managing their stress has become a priority. Such acts of social responsibility from corporates are truly meaningful and go a long way in motivating our forces, as well as ensuring that they may continue to work at the forefront without fear.”

Jitu Virwani, Chairman & Managing Director, Embassy Group, added,“In this time of extra-ordinary circumstances, it will take all of us to contain and lessen the impact of the virus. We salute the efforts and courage of our traffic police personnel who have stood at the forefront of this pandemic and continue to work day and night to contain the spread, at great risk to their own lives. I felt that it was our obligation to support them in performing their duties in a safe manner – the face shields and re-usable gloves is a vital addition towards achieving this. I would like to request other companies and Bangalore’s citizens to come forward in partnering with the police force during this challenging period.”

Embassy had previously supported police forces around the country, at the onset of the pandemic and the ensuing national lockdown. To assist them in conducting their duties in a safe and healthy manner, Embassy set up 11 hydration stations across the cities of Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai, Noida and Chennai. The stations were equipped with sanitizers, drinking water, tea/coffee, refreshments, access to first aid and toilets. In addition, Embassy procured hand 50,150 sanitizers, 1,05,800 disposable protective masks and 1,05,400 nutritional snacks for the task forces in these cities.
