Are you worried about the financial future of your family once you are no longer around? Are you in search of a financial product that can help you provide much-needed economic protection to your dear ones? If yes, consider investing in a term insurance policy. Read on to know more about what is term insurance plan and why it is one of the most popular life insurance products.

Term insurance is undoubtedly one of the purest types of life insurance policies. It provides life cover to the policyholder for a specific period. It offers a high sum assured at a cheaper premium compared to other life insurance policies. If you are planning to buy a term insurance plan, it is advisable to read this five-pointer guide.

Ascertain the sum assured

The sum assured that your family will receive in case of any unfortunate incident will help them to manage the household expenses and fulfill their financial aspirations. Therefore, the sum assured should be significant enough for your family to live a stress-free and financially independent life. So, while buying a term policy, you need to make sure that your sum assured is sufficient enough during your absence. Do understand that your family’s life goals can change over the years. Therefore, it becomes necessary to determine the life cover accordingly.

Calculate the sum assured

The thumb rule of finalizing the sum assured is that it should be at least 10 times your yearly income. However, with rising inflation and financial responsibilities, it is recommended that you opt for a sum assured, which is 15 to 20 times your annual earnings.

Compare various term plans

Before you buy an online term policy, it is necessary to analyze different plans offered by various insurers. You can use a term plan calculator for doing this. You need to review aspects, such as the tenure, premium, and sum assured of different term plans.  By doing this, it will be easier for you to determine which policy can meet your needs and financial aspirations.

Let your family know about your term policy

The sole purpose of purchasing an online term policy is to safeguard the financial future of the family. So, when you invest in a term plan, it is necessary to inform your family about the purchase. Additionally, you need to guide them about the features and benefits of the plan. Also, emergencies can come unannounced. Therefore, you need to make your family members understand the claim settlement process so that they do not have to go through any trouble to receive the death benefit. Moreover, keep the original copy of the policy along with the documents required for the claim process in such a place that your family members can find it easily.

Do not let your policy lapse

If your policy gets lapsed, your family’s economic security will be at risk. They may have to compromise on their lifestyle, let go of their financial aspirations, and face monetary problems due to which they may become dependent on someone else. If you do not want your family to suffer, you need to make sure to pay the premium for your term plan on time and prevent your policy from getting lapsed.

To sum it up

A term plan can act as an income replacement tool for your family once you are no longer around. Therefore, it becomes necessary, to opt for a suitable policy with a large sum assured to help your family to sail through the rough times during your absence. You can use a term plan calculatorto get an idea about the cost you need to pay for a substantial sum assured.
