PUNE: Health, Safety and Sustainability are the core components of corporate strategy of thyssenkrupp Industries India, a diversified industrial group, began its journey in India way back in 1860. On Friday, nearly 700 employees of thyssenkrupp in Pune cycled and walked to work as part of the we cycle & we walk initiative to spread awareness of environmental protection.
About 300 employees cycled around 12 kilometres and 400 employees walked nearly 3 kms to work, including Malay Das, MD & CEO, thyssenkrupp Industries India and G.V. Ketkar, CFO, thyssenkrupp Industries India.
No cars or bikes were allowed inside the company premises and employees commuted either by cycles or public transport to work; all centralized air-conditioners were switched off for the day.
“Environmental protection is a core element of thyssenkrupp’s sustainability efforts. Biking to work will not only improve health; but will also improve quality of life, and an added advantage is that it is beneficial to the environment as it reduces our carbon footprint,” said Malay Das, MD & CEO, thyssenkrupp Industries India.
With pollution and environment hazard emerging as a major concern in the contemporary scenario, it is critical that serious steps are taken towards ensuring a clean and healthy environment.
