KOLHAPUR: Students of Sanjay Ghodawat International School, Kolhapur donated Rs 3,40,000 to Habitat for Humanity India under Rupee for Change campaign. The students were delighted to be felicitated by actress Sagarika Ghatge for their contribution for such a noble cause.

Habitat for Humanity India is a non-profit organization working towards building homes and sanitation units for the marginalized families. It has helped over 1,95,000 families gain access to decent shelter as well as rebuilt their homes and lives in the aftermath of disasters.

‘Rupee for Change’ is Habitat’s pan-India school campaign that engages schools in advocacy, volunteer and fundraising activities to support Habitat’s efforts of rebuilding the nation by building affordable homes and providing improved sanitation facilities to the families in need. Students voluntarily contribute Rs.1 per day throughout one year in order to contribute towards these causes.

While interacting with students, Sagarika Ghagte said, “It’s inspiring to see these young students working towards the betterment of the society. I appreciate the efforts of Sanjay Ghodawat International School, Kolhapur for their commitment. Habitat for Humanity India is doing a great job by building homes for the underprivileged people and also by sensitising the next generation on issues like substandard housing and poor sanitation facilities. We can resolve these challenges only if we work together. If we need to bring about a change, the youth of the country will have to play an important role.”

Rajan Samuel, Managing Director, Habitat for Humanity India, said, “It is a delight to see these students understanding the need of the society. These young leaders are the one who will help build better living conditions for the underprivileged. We are thankful to the school for helping us educate the students and to raise awareness on the issue of housing and sanitation”.Sagarika Ghatge addressing the students with her speech

Sasmita Mohanty, Principal of Sanjay Ghodawat International School said, “We want our children to be empathetic towards the needs of the underprivileged. They must make an effort to empower the fellow citizens who are deprived of the basic amenities of life. We are very happy to be associated with Habitat for Humanity India. By partnering with them we can contribute to the Government of India’s mission of Housing for All and the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.”

Habitat for Humanity India has served over 85,000 individuals in across several districts of Maharashtra by building homes, individual household latrines, school sanitation units, community sanitation units and by providing safe drinking water and water wheels.
