MUMBAI: The Highly coveted Wipro-Nature Forever Society Sparrow Awards were conferred on three conservationists at an event held earlier today to commemorate World Sparrow Day which is celebrated globally on March 20.
Maharashtra Nature Park, the venue for the award ceremony came alive with conservationists, nature enthusiasts, ornithologists and the Mumbaikars from all walks of life.
The three winners of The Sparrow Awards 2015 are: Arif Siddiqui, Eco-tourism promoter and Lepidopterist, Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Forest Cell Volunteers and Rushikulya Sea Turtle Protection Committee The Sparrow Awards is the result of a collaboration between Wipro and Nature Forever Society.The award comprises Rs 50,000 worth of equipment and a citation.
Mohammed Dilawar, Founder and President, Nature Forever Society and initiator of World Sparrow Day, said, “These winners have been chosen very carefully. We have been following their work closely over the past few years and have measured the impact of their conservation and sustainability initiatives. Right from its inception this Award has grown in stature and the winners have been contributing tremendously with their time and effort and more often than not, they are self-funding these initiatives.”
NFS also announced ‘Help the Birds in Summer’ a national campaign in association with Dainik Bhaskar.Also announced at the event was the Caring Friends-NFS Conservation Research Fellowship. This Fellowship is available for research in the area of nature conservation.
