NEW DELHI: IndiaCSR is organizing the India Sanitation Summit & Awards on Sanitation & Toilet issues and the Summit titled ‘Sanitation for all – Toilet First’. The Summit will promote Bio-Toilets and recognized outstanding contribution in the area of sanitation and toilet construction.
Bio-toilets are low-energy consuming and save water compared to traditional toilet systems. The system leaves pathogen-free water as effluent that can be re-used, which could be particularly useful in arid and semi-arid areas. For large bio-tanks, methane can also be collected and used.
The summit shall be held in New Delhi on 6th Feb, 2015.

The summit is aligned to ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ (Clean India Initiative) of our visionary Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. IndiaCSR is an active participant of this noble mission to support and create national level forum to discuss various issues related to the toilet and sanitation, health, education, women empowerment and behavioral change for wider social good.
We believe that the summit would highlight the problems allied with lack of sanitation facilities and toilets and would also make resolutions to achieve Nation Sanitation Goals by 2019 as a tribute to the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, by eliminating the unhealthy practice of open defecation. Indian Government has envisioned a great mission to develop separate toilets for boys and girls in every school in the country, by 15th of August 2015.
The India Sanitation Summit will involve some of the most reputed and competent Indian and International speakers from government and private sectors, research agencies, innovators, social scientists and thought leaders dealing in sanitation and toiletries industries in the country. There will be 30 speakers and more than 200 participants projected in this exclusive summit.
The Summit would provide a forum to initiate a dialogue and enlighten the delegates on various issues related to sanitation, toilet movement, woman empowerment, women dignity and girl child education etc.

The bio-toilet (or bioloo) helps treat human waste using bacterial culture, which eliminates the need for waste disposal. The toilet is 100 per cent eco-friendly, saves energy, conserves water and produces bio-gas. A bio-digester is a consortium of anaerobic bacteria, which convert the organic waste into water, methane and CO2. The anaerobic process inactivates the pathogens responsible for water-borne diseases. The gases don’t harm the environment in any manner, and the effluent water is good for gardening and similar purposes.
Sanitation facilities in India are alarmingly poor with over 600 million people (half of India’s population) having no access to toilets and open defecation practiced instead. This poses health hazards, raises environmental concerns and leads to water contamination. This is coupled with the Indian Railways’s open-chute toilet system wherein the human waste drops on the rail tracks. Untreated human waste or the fecal matter lying in the open is a grave threat to the well-being and good health of the society and the environment.
The bio-toilet system consists of an easy to erect super-structure, a multi-chambered matriced bio-tank that holds the bacterial culture and allows the treatment of the human waste. The system doesn’t need any external energy for treatment, rather emits pathogen-free effluent water that is good for gardening and similar purposes; and bio-gas that could be used for cooking or heating. The system meets all regulatory and environmentally compliances and enhances the socio-environmental fabric of India.
