LGATPURI, NASHIK: Living with Type 2 diabetes for several years can make health management a constant part of everyday life. Regular monitoring, dietary considerations, medicines and concerns about long-term wellbeing can gradually become routine. For 60-year-old Anjana Singh, who had been living with Type 2 diabetes for approximately five years, the search for a more structured approach to lifestyle and wellness led her to Nirvana Naturopathy and Retreat, Igatpuri, Nashik, founded by Gurumaa Yogita Khatri. Anjana’s experience was not based on the expectation of a quick cure or a single therapy. Instead, her wellness programme focused on natural therapies, disciplined daily routines, dietary awareness and professional guidance. Her programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Sushma, BNYS, along with the wellness team at the retreat.

Looking Beyond Numbers in Diabetes Management

Type 2 diabetes is a long-term metabolic condition in which the body has difficulty using insulin effectively and, over time, may also experience reduced insulin production. Managing the condition generally requires attention to several aspects of health, including diet, physical activity, medication and regular medical monitoring.

For Anjana, however, managing diabetes had gradually become more than simply keeping track of blood sugar readings. She wanted to understand whether changes in lifestyle and natural wellness practices could support her overall wellbeing.

This perspective brought her to Nirvana Naturopathy and Retreat in Igatpuri, Nashik, where her programme was structured around lifestyle and naturopathy-based wellness practices.

Her experience illustrates an important distinction: naturopathy and wellness practices should not be considered replacements for essential medical treatment. Rather, they may form part of a broader lifestyle and wellbeing approach when undertaken responsibly and with appropriate professional supervision.

A Structured Approach to Natural Wellness

One of the defining elements of Anjana’s programme was its structured nature. Instead of focusing on one particular therapy, the programme brought together several components, including hydrotherapy, therapeutic diet planning and mud therapy, along with a disciplined daily routine.

The underlying approach was based on looking at everyday habits as a whole.

How consistently does a person eat? How much rest do they receive? Is there adequate physical movement? How does stress affect their routine? Are healthier habits being maintained over the long term?

For someone who has lived with a chronic condition for years, these questions can become important when developing a more conscious approach to daily wellbeing.

Hydrotherapy as Part of the Wellness Programme

Hydrotherapy was one of the natural therapies included in Anjana’s programme at the retreat. Water-based therapies have traditionally been incorporated into naturopathy and wellness programmes for relaxation, comfort and general wellbeing.

At Nirvana Naturopathy and Retreat, hydrotherapy formed part of a broader programme rather than being presented as a standalone solution for Type 2 diabetes.

This distinction is particularly important. Diabetes requires appropriate medical supervision, and individuals should not discontinue prescribed medicines or alter their treatment without consulting their qualified healthcare professional.

For Anjana, the value of the programme was its overall structure. The scheduled therapies, rest periods and disciplined environment encouraged her to dedicate time to her health and daily routine.

Therapeutic Diet and Greater Awareness of Food

Diet was another significant component of Anjana’s wellness journey.

For people managing diabetes, food can sometimes become associated primarily with restrictions and things they are advised to avoid. A structured dietary programme can instead encourage greater awareness of eating patterns, food choices and consistency.

At the retreat, Anjana followed a natural and disciplined dietary routine as part of her overall wellness programme. The focus was not presented as an extreme short-term diet, but as an opportunity to develop more conscious eating habits.

The experience encouraged her to consider food within the larger context of lifestyle rather than viewing individual meals or ingredients in isolation.

The Role of Mud Therapy and a Disciplined Routine

Mud therapy was another component of the programme. Traditionally used in naturopathy and wellness settings, mud applications are associated with relaxation and physical comfort.

For Anjana, the broader environment surrounding these therapies was equally significant. A residential wellness programme can create distance from the demands of everyday life, allowing an individual to follow a more structured schedule involving planned meals, therapies, rest and personal attention.

In that setting, routine itself can become an important part of the experience.

Anjana Singh’s Personal Wellness Experience

During her stay, Anjana reported experiencing relief and an improvement in her overall sense of wellbeing. Her experience remains personal and individual, and outcomes from wellness programmes can differ considerably between people.

This is especially relevant when discussing a chronic condition such as Type 2 diabetes. No single therapy or wellness programme should be presented as a guaranteed treatment or cure. Any decision involving medication, insulin, blood sugar management or other medical treatment should be made with a qualified healthcare professional.

What Anjana’s experience highlights is the potential importance of taking a broader view of personal wellbeing—one that considers daily routine, nutrition, rest, stress management and healthy lifestyle habits alongside appropriate medical care.

Promoting Awareness Around Lifestyle and Long-Term Health

India’s growing burden of lifestyle-related health conditions has increased attention around prevention, healthier routines and responsible wellness practices.

While modern medical care remains essential for diagnosing and treating chronic diseases, lifestyle awareness can also play an important role in helping individuals understand the factors that influence their overall health.

Nirvana Naturopathy and Retreat in Igatpuri, Nashik, under the leadership of Gurumaa Yogita Khatri, focuses on natural living, wellness awareness and lifestyle-oriented approaches.

Anjana’s case study reflects this broader philosophy. After approximately five years of living with Type 2 diabetes, she chose to explore a structured naturopathy and wellness programme under the guidance of Dr. Sushma, BNYS, and the retreat’s wellness team.

A Journey Focused on Awareness, Not a Quick Fix

The most significant aspect of Anjana Singh’s experience may not be any individual therapy. It is the shift towards becoming more conscious of everyday health choices.

Her journey demonstrates how a structured environment can encourage individuals to reconsider their relationship with food, rest, routine and personal wellbeing. It also reinforces the importance of approaching chronic health conditions responsibly, without expecting natural therapies to replace evidence-based medical treatment.

For Anjana, the experience was ultimately about taking time to reassess her lifestyle and make health a more deliberate part of her daily routine.

Conclusion: Small Changes Can Shape a Healthier Routine

Anjana Singh’s experience at Nirvana Naturopathy and Retreat offers a personal perspective on how structured wellness programmes can encourage greater awareness of lifestyle and wellbeing.

Her five-year journey with Type 2 diabetes brought her to a programme incorporating naturopathy, hydrotherapy, therapeutic diet planning, mud therapy, rest and daily discipline. Rather than looking for a miracle solution, she explored a more comprehensive approach to her lifestyle under professional guidance.

Her story serves as a reminder that long-term wellbeing is often shaped by consistent everyday choices. A healthier meal, better routine, sufficient rest and greater awareness of the body’s needs may seem like small steps individually, but together they can influence how a person approaches their health journey.
