N.P. Mohapatra’s work in Chhattisgarh and beyond helped strengthen access to banking, savings and financial awareness among underserved communities
MUMBAI (India CSR): In a significant recognition of his lifelong contribution to financial inclusion, N.P. Mohapatra, former Chief General Manager of NABARD, was honoured with the ‘Golden Award for Lifetime Achievement in Financial Literacy’ at the prestigious HDFC Securities ‘Powerful Voices in Finance Awards 2026’.
The award ceremony was held in Mumbai on April 8, 2026, celebrating individuals and organisations driving meaningful change in financial literacy and inclusion across India.
At the ceremony, Mohapatra received the award from Dhiraj Relli, Managing Director & CEO of HDFC Securities Limited.
A Veteran Driving Financial Literacy in India
A veteran in the field, N.P. Mohapatra received this honour for decades of dedication to advancing financial literacy in India. His journey reflects impactful milestones such as: Empowering first-time investors, Enabling women to open savings accounts and Guiding young graduates to make informed financial decisions.
His work has significantly contributed to the progress India has achieved in financial education, especially among underserved communities.
Transforming Rural India Through Innovation
Mohapatra’s contributions are particularly notable in Chhattisgarh, where he played a key role in promoting financial inclusion among tribal and rural populations.
Through the Post Bank Model, he helped bring banking services closer to the “last, lost, and least” by leveraging: Post offices as banking touchpoints, Postal networks and Dakwalas for outreach and Postal ATMs for last-mile financial access.
The model, piloted in states like Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, and Chhattisgarh, later scaled across the country, demonstrating how existing infrastructure can enable inclusive growth.
The ‘Powerful Voices in Finance‘
HDFC Securities, one of India’s leading stockbroking firms, hosted the second edition of the ‘Powerful Voices in Finance Awards 2026’, a platform dedicated to recognising efforts that advance financial inclusion nationwide.
The awards acknowledge individuals and organisations delivering practical financial education to underserved populations.
Celebrating Impact Across India
This year’s awards highlighted diverse initiatives, including: Rural savings programs helping farmers manage crop loans, Urban women gaining confidence in digital payments and Youth learning investment basics before entering the workforce. The initiative showcased efforts that are building long-term financial resilience across communities.
Rigorous Selection and National Recognition
The awards featured 11 categories, covering areas such as: Rural financial literacy, Women-focused financial empowerment, Digital financial inclusion and Financial literacy for youth. A distinguished jury comprising Dr. Bhaskar Chatterjee, Abhishek Ranjan, Sita Ram Gupta, and Dr. Vivek Prakash evaluated over 100 nominations.
The winners were selected based on: Impact and reach, Innovation and sustainability, Scalability potential and Transparency in governance.
