PUNE (India CSR: The ambitious 1,000-bed Balasaheb Deoras Rugnalay project in Pune has received a major boost with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) extending corporate social responsibility (CSR) support of over Rs 12.29 crore. The funding will be used for the construction of the fourth floor of the hospital building, where a modern Pathology Laboratory and dedicated Ayurveda and Panchakarma departments will be developed.
The hospital is being established in the name of Balasaheb Deoras, the third Sarsanghchalak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Once completed, the facility is expected to emerge as a large and significant healthcare institution in Pune, offering advanced and comprehensive medical services to citizens, especially in the city’s eastern region.
MoU Signed for Major Healthcare Support
The announcement was made at an event held on the occasion of the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Airports Authority of India and Pune Medical Seva and Research Foundation. The programme was organised under the guidance of Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohol said the upcoming hospital is being developed as a large-scale medical facility that will provide comprehensive healthcare services to the people of Pune. He said the project is expected to make a strong mark in the medical field in the coming years due to its scale, purpose, and service orientation.
The event was attended by AAI Chairman Vipin Kumar and other dignitaries, underlining the importance of the partnership between the public sector and social institutions in developing healthcare infrastructure.
AAI CSR Support to Build New Medical Facilities
Under the CSR support of Rs 12.29 crore, the fourth floor of Balasaheb Deoras Rugnalay will be developed with a state-of-the-art pathology laboratory and separate Ayurveda and Panchakarma therapy departments.
These additions are expected to significantly enhance the hospital’s service capacity. The pathology laboratory will improve access to timely and accurate diagnosis, while the Ayurveda and Panchakarma units will add a traditional and holistic wellness component to the institution’s healthcare offerings.
The expansion is also expected to help the hospital serve a larger number of patients from Pune and surrounding areas. By strengthening both diagnostic and therapeutic services, the project aims to improve the overall quality and accessibility of medical care.
The institution builds upon the trust’s earlier work in diagnostics through the Balasaheb Deoras Polyclinic at Kondhwa, Pune, which has been serving the community since June 2019. With the hospital project now moving forward in phases, the trust aims to create a major healthcare ecosystem capable of responding to the region’s growing medical needs.
Chairman Vipin Kumar Highlights AAI’s Social Commitment
AAI Chairman Vipin Kumar said the support reflects the organisation’s commitment to community welfare and public health.
He said, “This CSR initiative underscores AAI’s commitment to supporting community welfare. By investing in advanced healthcare infrastructure, we are helping improve quality of life and accessibility to essential medical services for communities across Pune.”
AAI said the project aligns with its larger CSR vision of contributing to nation-building by supporting critical sectors such as healthcare. The organisation also noted that the initiative combines modern medical infrastructure with traditional healthcare systems, thereby promoting a broader and more holistic model of community well-being.
Hospital Project Receives Another Major CSR Push from IIFL Foundation
The AAI support comes soon after another major CSR contribution to the same hospital project. Last month, IIFL Foundation, the CSR arm of diversified financial conglomerate IIFL Group, contributed Rs 16 crore towards the development of key facilities at the proposed 1,000-bed Balasaheb Deoras Rugnalay.
The contribution was made to Pune Vaidyakiya Seva Va Sanshodhan Pratishthan, which is developing the hospital. The first phase, known as Phase 1A, comprising 303 beds, is currently under construction.
With the IIFL Foundation support, the project will see the construction and development of 20 Outpatient Departments (OPDs), a medical library, a CT Scan department, a USG department, a retail pharmacy, and a dining area within the hospital campus.
These facilities will considerably strengthen outpatient care, diagnostic services, and patient-support infrastructure, making specialised healthcare more accessible within a single integrated institution.
“Beyond direct medical care, the project is also expected to generate significant social and economic benefits. It is projected to directly benefit around 9 lakh individuals. In addition, nearly 5,000 employees, vendors, and service providers are expected to receive indirect benefits from the hospital ecosystem.”, IIFL said in its media statement.
