NEW DELHI (India CSR): PSA India, which recently inaugurated its largest container terminal, has been implementing a comprehensive CSR portfolio spanning education, healthcare, women’s economic empowerment, and early childhood development.

Implemented through the recent fiscal year, these initiatives reflect the port operator’s commitment to building inclusive growth in communities surrounding its terminal operations.

The programmes, executed through strategic partnerships with specialized NGOs, have reached over 2,000 direct beneficiaries across multiple states, while supporting PSA India’s broader sustainability agenda that includes achieving carbon neutrality at key terminals.

STEM Education for Government Schools

In partnership with the Women’s Organisation for Socio-Cultural Awareness (WOSCA), PSA India launched the Jigyasa Max STEM Lab Program across government schools. The initiative has benefited over 340 students while training 15 teachers in experiential pedagogy and activity-based learning methods.

The programme introduced hands-on science and mathematics learning through lab equipment, circuit boards, and geometric models, transforming traditional classrooms into spaces for practical exploration. Teachers have reported increased student engagement and improved understanding of core STEM concepts among participating students.

The initiative addresses critical gaps in practical science education within India’s public school system, particularly in under-resourced areas where laboratory infrastructure remains limited.

Women’s Skilling for Economic Independence

Through its Women Skilling Programme, implemented in collaboration with Astha Social Foundation, PSA India has trained over 60 women in tailoring and general duty healthcare. An additional 370 women have been mobilised for upcoming training batches, reflecting the programme’s scalability and community demand.

This programme directly builds livelihood capabilities for first-generation learners, with graduates now establishing micro-enterprises or seeking employment in healthcare and garment sectors. Simultaneously, it also aligns with national efforts to enhance women’s workforce participation and create pathways for sustainable livelihoods in semi-urban and rural communities.

Preventive Healthcare Through Genetic Screening

PSA India’s partnership with the Arpan Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Society raised awareness of genetic health on college campuses through thalassemia minor screening camps. The drive detected a 2.6% positive rate among screened students and provided genetic counseling to affected individuals and their families.

This preventive healthcare approach addresses critical awareness gaps around hereditary blood disorders in India’s semi-urban populations. By targeting young adults before major life decisions, the programme embeds health awareness at a crucial demographic stage.

Early Childhood Development Support

Recognizing the importance of foundational years, PSA India partnered with Vipla Foundation (Save the Children India) to strengthen Anganwadi Centers, India’s grassroots childcare infrastructure. T

he initiative trained 114 Anganwadi workers in early childhood care and education practices, while a concurrent hearing screening programme examined 1,196 children under six years, leading to early detection of impairments and timely medical interventions. Parents and educators have reported improved school readiness and classroom participation, supporting India’s National Education Policy 2020 emphasis on foundational learning.

Environmental Commitment Continues

Alongside its community programmes, PSA India continues advancing its decarbonisation roadmap. PSA Mumbai operates as India’s first 100% renewable-powered container terminal, while PSA Chennai is on track to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. The company’s transition to electric equipment and renewable energy reflects its integrated approach to operational efficiency and environmental responsibility.

Strategic Partnership Model

PSA India’s CSR initiatives are distinguished by their partnership-driven implementation model. Each programme is executed through specialized NGO partners with domain expertise, ensuring quality delivery and measurable outcomes. This approach enables PSA to leverage sectoral knowledge while maintaining focus on its core business operations.

As India pursues infrastructure expansion while addressing persistent social inequalities, PSA India’s integrated approach to business growth and community development offers a model for inclusive economic progress that extends beyond port operations.
