BHUBANESWAR: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a flagship subsidiary of maharatna Coal India Limited, the single largest coal producer in the world, has been declared the leading corporate spender for CSR projects in Odisha, where MCL has coal mines.
At a round-table meeting held in Bhubaneswar on June 17, Odisha’s Industries Minister Debi Prasad Mishra released a white paper on ‘CSR in Odisha’ wherein MCL was acknowledged as the top corporate of the state for CSR activities, spending Rs 61.30 crore during 2014-15, a company release said.
MCL, which has become the top coal producer of country during 2015-16, has been contributing extensively under corporate social responsibility (CSR) for uplift of socio-economically underprivileged segments of the society, it said.
The CSR focus of MCL has remained on infrastructure development, water supply, sanitation, healthcare, education, environment protection, women empowerment and sports promotion, it said.
During 2014-15, the company spent Rs 779 lakh for water supply, Rs 3,378 lakh for infrastructure, Rs 395 lakh for education, Rs 597 lakh electricity, Rs 147 lakh for health and sanitation and Rs 734 lakh for sports and culture, the release said.
