PUNE (India CSR): In a momentous occasion, Bharat Forge Limited, a leading global manufacturing company, was honoured with the prestigious Gold Award in the Rural Development category at the CSR Times Awards 2024 on August 23, 2024. The esteemed award was presented by Dr. Pramod Sawant, the Chief Minister of Goa, at a glittering ceremony held in the majestic Darbar Hall of Raj Bhawan.
This recognition underscores Bharat Forge’s unwavering commitment to creating a positive and sustainable impact on the lives of people residing in rural areas across multiple key indicators.

Bharat Forge’s Rural Development Initiatives: Five Key Indicators
Bharat Forge’s rural development initiatives have made a significant impact in the areas of water conservation, livelihood enhancement, healthcare, education, and Accessibility.
These projects demonstrate the company’s commitment to community well-being through sustainable development. Below are five key indicators that highlight the effectiveness and reach of Bharat Forge’s rural initiatives.
1. Water Harvesting: Improving Availability and Productivity
Bharat Forge has implemented various water harvesting projects, resulting in improved water availability for agriculture and household use in several villages. Key initiatives include the construction of Bandharas and desilting of water bodies in villages such as Chilewadi, Amondi, and Wagholi, where water storage capacities have increased significantly.
- Impact: For instance, the project at Wagholi benefited over 6,900 people, adding 75 TCM of water storage capacity. In Visapur, over 4,600 people gained from improved water availability due to the construction of Bandharas.
- Results: These projects have not only increased agricultural productivity but also improved livelihoods by enabling farmers to grow multiple crops annually, thus enhancing food security and income.

2. Livelihood Opportunities: Converting Barren Land into Fertile Fields
Bharat Forge has successfully transformed barren lands into fertile ones through levelling efforts. The CSR initiatives have enhanced agricultural output and improved the livelihood of farmers by providing training in modern agricultural practices and creating access to better markets.
- Impact: In 2023-24 alone, over 1554 gunthas of barren land were leveled, benefiting 105 farmers.
- Results: The transformation has led to an increase in the average annual household income, with returns on investment (ROI) reaching up to 122% by 2021-22.
3. Health: Bringing Quality Healthcare to Rural Areas
Bharat Forge’s healthcare initiatives focus on early detection, particularly through cancer screening camps and telemedicine centers across eight villages. These telemedicine centers provide access to quality healthcare services, including consultations, diagnostics, and follow-up care, ensuring residents in remote areas receive essential medical attention.
- Impact: For instance, the introduction of telemedicine centres has made healthcare more accessible for over eight villages, significantly reducing the need for long-distance travel to seek medical services.
- Results: Community feedback and engagement ensure that healthcare programs are tailored to local needs, improving overall health outcomes in the targeted areas.

4. Education: Enhancing Infrastructure for Schools
In its education-focused initiatives, Bharat Forge has worked to improve school infrastructure, benefiting students across various villages. By constructing classrooms, building toilet units, and maintaining essential facilities, the company has improved the learning environment for hundreds of students.
- Impact: For instance, the construction of two classrooms in Vanpuri village directly benefited over 120 students. Similarly, new toilet units built in Gurholi benefited over 380 students.
- Results: These infrastructure improvements have created a more conducive learning environment, encouraging better attendance and enhancing the overall educational experience.
5. Easy Accessibility: Developing Rural Infrastructure
Bharat Forge has focused on constructing internal roads in rural areas, improving connectivity and accessibility for residents. These efforts are crucial for facilitating mobility, trade, and access to essential services.
- Impact: For instance, in Hiware village the construction of a 210-meter road benefited over 1,900 people. Similar projects in Bopgaon and Bhiwari enhanced accessibility for thousands of residents.
- Results: Better roads have improved the overall quality of life for villagers, allowing easier access to markets, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions.
