Annual Tree Plantation Goals

Since its inception, Project Hariyali has planted 25.13 million trees, including 16.42 million in Araku. This initiative supports the livelihoods of over 27,500 tribal farmer families, demonstrating M&M’s commitment to community development and environmental conservation.

“Our ambitious ‘Project Hariyali’ aims to plant five million trees annually by F26, with 25.13 million trees already planted. These sustained efforts have garnered global recognitions, positioning Mahindra as a responsible corporate citizen.”, company’s annual report said.

Doubling Energy Efficiency

Since the financial year 2009, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has made significant strides in energy efficiency. The company has doubled the energy efficiency of its operations, now using half the energy to manufacture each vehicle. This achievement underscores M&M’s dedication to sustainable practices and operational excellence.

Hariyali Tree Plantation Program

The Hariyali program has been a cornerstone of M&M’s environmental initiatives. To date, the program has enriched landscapes with nearly 25 million trees.

Planet Positive Approach

M&M’s ‘Planet Positive’ approach integrates sustainability into every facet of its operations. This comprehensive strategy includes initiatives focused on:

  • Carbon Emission Reduction: M&M actively works on reducing its carbon footprint.
  • Water Source Replenishment: Efforts are made to ensure sustainable water sources.
  • Biodiversity Enrichment: The company promotes biodiversity through various projects.
  • Establishment of Carbon Sinks: Initiatives are in place to create carbon sinks, helping to mitigate climate change impacts.

Community and Employee Welfare

M&M prioritizes the welfare of its communities and employees. By creating value for stakeholders and addressing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) risks, the company seizes opportunities for sustainable growth.

EP100 Initiative and Zero Waste Certification

Mahindra was the first global company to pledge to double energy productivity through the EP100 initiative. The company is on track to achieve ‘Zero Waste to Landfill’ certification across all locations by 2030. This ambitious goal reflects M&M’s unwavering commitment to sustainability.

Water Conservation Efforts

In Financial Year 2024, M&M supported 1,033 farmers through soil and water conservation, crop diversification, and livelihood training initiatives. Collaborating with NABARD, the company undertook Watershed Development Fund (WDF) Projects in Igatpuri and Akole Block of Nashik and Ahmednagar District of Maharashtra, focusing on the Kadva River Basin.

Achievements in Water Conservation

M&M’s water management interventions span six states, resulting in:

  • Creation and renovation of 505 water harvesting structures.
  • 5,219 lakh litres of water harvesting potential.
  • Increased irrigation potential across 2,212 hectares.

Cumulatively, 15,126 hectares have been covered under water management initiatives, benefiting 44,523 farmers and community members through these water conservation efforts.
