NEW DELHI (India CSR): A remarkable couple in India, Himanshu and Twinkle, has dedicated their lives to providing free ambulance services to those in need through their NGO, the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Help And Care Society. Fueled by a personal tragedy, their inspiring journey exemplifies unwavering compassion and a commitment to saving lives.
Himanshu’s childhood experience deeply impacted his life. At the young age of 14, he witnessed the devastating consequences of limited access to medical care. His father’s accident left the family struggling to find transport and afford treatment, ultimately resulting in his father falling into a coma. This hardship ignited a passion in Himanshu to prevent others from facing similar struggles.
In 2002, their wedding marked the beginning of their extraordinary mission. Instead of a traditional gift, they received an ambulance. Motivated by Himanshu’s past, the couple established their NGO and embarked on a journey to provide free, 24/7 ambulance services. “We handle a significant number of critical cases daily, receiving over 15-20 calls requesting urgent medical transport,” says Himanshu. Their dedication runs deep, as they have even sold their own home and reinvested the earnings, along with their income from selling insurance, to sustain this vital service.
Despite facing personal challenges, including Twinkle’s battles with Hepatitis B and cancer, and Himanshu’s own heart condition requiring treatment, their resolve remains unwavering. The Shaheed Bhagat Singh Help And Care Society, now with a fleet of 14 ambulances, has expanded its reach beyond its North Delhi roots, serving the entire National Capital Region. Their swift response to emergencies, ranging from building fires to railway accidents, has undoubtedly saved countless lives.
“Every day presents new obstacles, but we are determined to support those in need,” says Twinkle. “We offer more than just transportation – we provide a lifeline during some of life’s most difficult moments.” Currently running a fundraiser on Milaap, the organization has garnered support from over 690 individuals, raising over INR 7.8 lakhs towards their mission. These funds will be used to cover operational costs, support their team of 10 members, and potentially expand their services to additional cities throughout India.
