Emerging Trends and Insights from the India CSR Outlook Report 2023

NEW DELHI (India CSR): The introduction of Section 135 of the Companies Act of 2013 heralded an unprecedented era in India. Mandating Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) among the nation’s large companies, this groundbreaking provision set the stage for a seismic shift in the way businesses approached societal contributions. The CSR Outlook Report 2023 offers a comprehensive snapshot of the evolving CSR landscape in the country.

The emphasis now lies on transparent reporting, strategic collaborations, and data-driven methodologies. As businesses continue to explore new avenues and partnerships, the coming years promise an even more vibrant and impactful CSR ecosystem in India.

From Compliance to Impact

The Changing Contours of CSR

While the initial response to the 2013 mandate largely revolved around compliance, the subsequent years witnessed a transformation in the CSR landscape. Today, companies are increasingly focusing on achieving a deeper societal impact rather than mere adherence to statutory requirements. This shift underscores the growing importance of transparency, with businesses emphasizing consistent reporting and disclosure of their CSR endeavors.

Priorities in Focus

Sectoral Insights from the Survey

According to the India CSR Outlook Report 2023, the leading CSR priority among 26% of companies is Healthcare and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene). Environment and Sustainability, along with Promotion of Education, each hold the attention of 23% of companies. Interestingly, Environment and Sustainability not only emerged as the top priority but also held significant traction as the second and third priority area, drawing the interest of over a third and a quarter of businesses, respectively.
