Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL), a frontrunner in India’s FMCG sector, has made considerable progress in fostering gender diversity within its organization. The company announced that women comprise 40% of its managerial population as of March 2023, marking a significant stride in its Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) journey.

Significant Leap in Gender Diversity

HUL revealed that they have strengthened their commitment to gender diversity, reaching an impressive 40% representation of women in their managerial workforce by March 2023. This figure underscores the company’s dedication towards fostering an inclusive work culture and providing equal opportunities for everyone.

A Balanced Workforce

The company has achieved a gender balance in many of its divisions including Marketing, Research and Development, Legal, and Human Resources. This achievement underlines HUL’s proactive efforts to ensure equal representation in key sectors of its business.

Project Ahilya – Breaking Gender Barriers

HUL also highlighted its initiative, Project Ahilya, designed to create equal opportunities for women in frontline sales roles traditionally dominated by men. Currently, the Ahilya community consists of over 1,000 women, and the initiative continues to gain momentum across the country, aiming to build a truly diverse and inclusive sales frontline.

Commitment to Gender Equality on the Factory Floor

In addition to the progress made in managerial roles, HUL also reported advancements in promoting gender equality on the factory floor. Over 850 women have been added across the company’s factories, and it is on track to reach 40% women representation at its first gender-balanced site in Sumerpur by FY’23.

HUL’s efforts to enhance gender diversity in its workforce reaffirm the company’s commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace. By increasing female representation in its managerial positions and other areas of its business, HUL is setting a benchmark for other companies in the industry to follow.
