CSR: Vedanta Aluminium to host the first edition of the International Aluminium Conference in Odisha

Held in partnership with Aluminium Association of India, the conference will witness the exchange of ideas and best practices, and showcase new innovations and developments from industry leaders.

The conference will feature technical presentations from a variety of participants, including primary metal producers, equipment suppliers, product development teams, academic institutions, research centers, and prominent international experts.


New Delhi: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, will be hosting the first edition of the International Aluminium Conference (IAC 2023) in association with the Aluminium Association of India (AAI) on February 9th and 10th, 2023. The conference, themed on “Making India the Aluminium Capital of the World”, will be held at Vedanta’s operations in Jharsuguda, Odisha.

IAC 2023 aims to bring together the global aluminium industry and its stakeholders, including customers, end consumers, suppliers of technology, services and raw materials to the aluminium industry, and other players across the value chain. The conference provides a platform for the exchange of ideas and best practices, showcasing new innovations and developments in the field of aluminium, promoting sustainability in the industry, and fostering a circular economy.

The conference will feature technical presentations from a variety of participants, including primary metal producers, equipment suppliers, product development teams, academic institutions, research centers, and prominent international experts. IAC 2023 will see industry leaders come together to deliberate the road ahead for the global aluminium industry at the following panel sessions:

  1. Opportunities in Indian Aluminium Industry to attract global investments in manufacturing
  2. Aluminium alloys and their emerging applications in sunrise sectors
  3. Decarbonising the Aluminium industry and the potential of Green Aluminium
  4. New product development and emerging applications of Aluminium
  5. Promoting sustainability in the Aluminium industry

Rahul Sharma, President – Aluminium Association of India and CEO of Vedanta Limited – Aluminium, Power and Port Businesses, said, “We believe in the limitless potential of the aluminium industry and are proud to host the first edition of the International Aluminium Conference to spark ideas for an aluminium revolution in India. Alongside IAC 2023, there will be a 2-day international exhibition, featuring industry leaders, new-age start-ups and global suppliers from across the Aluminium industry value chain, displaying their manufacturing prowess.

The Aluminium Association of India (AAI) was founded in 1981 to cater to the needs of the Indian Aluminium Industry and represents the entire spectrum of Indian Aluminium Industry – from primary producers and downstream manufacturers to end users and R&D organisations. AAI is on a mission to promote utilization and growth of aluminium and its applications across industry sectors by creating a common forum for the Aluminium Industry and its constituents to formulate common policies and strategies.

Vedanta Aluminium, a business of Vedanta Limited, is India’s largest producer of aluminium, manufacturing more than half of India’s aluminium i.e., 2.27 million tonnes in FY22. It is a leader in value-added aluminium products that find critical applications in core industries. Vedanta Aluminium ranks 2nd in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) 2022 world rankings for aluminium industry, a reflection of its sustainable development practices. With its world-class aluminium smelters, alumina refinery and power plants in India, the company fulfils its mission of spurring emerging applications of aluminium as the ‘Metal of the Future’ for a greener tomorrow.
