This centre will promote the safety and well-being of women and children by addressing and resolving their issues

Sangareddy (India CSR): Aurobindo Pharma Foundation (APF), the philanthropic arm of Aurobindo Pharma Ltd, has performed the ground-breaking ceremony (Bhoomi Pooja) to construct a Bharosa Centre in Sangareddy district.

Aurobindo Pharma Foundation has pledged to take up this project to promote the safety of women and children, as part of its CSR initiative under the theme โ€œGender equity and women empowermentโ€.

With an outlay of Rs 2 crore, the construction of this centre is set to commence following the Bhoomi Pooja ceremony.

T Harish Rao, The Minister of Finance, Health and Medical & Family Welfare of Telangana, M. Ramana Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Sangareddy district, and other senior officials from the Women Safety Wing of police participated in the ceremony.

The centre will have a built-up area of 5,600 square feet with various features to accommodate the multiple services provided at Bharosa centres. The dedicated land is provided by the Police Department.

K Nithyananda Reddy, Director of Aurobindo Pharma Foundation and Managing Director and Vice Chairman, Aurobindo Pharma Ltd, said, โ€œAurobindo is grateful to the Telangana Police department for their efforts to protect women and children. We hope this contribution will help women and children in the Sangareddy district and surrounding areas to find a haven to register their grievances and seek support for various issues.โ€

Adding his views, P. Sarath Chandra Reddy Garu, Director, Aurobindo Pharma Ltd and Director, Aurobindo Pharma Foundation, said, โ€œThis centre will promote the safety and well-being of women and children by addressing and resolving their issues. Further, it will promote their holistic development and growth by providing them with various facilities that also include rehabilitation.โ€

Overall, this will lead to improved safety for women and children through the integrated services it offers, thereby, helping improve their lives. Long term, the centre will work towards building a balanced society where equality between men and women exists, through the resolution of conflicts in families and society at large and creating a safe environment for women and children.

Bharosa is a society for the protection of women and children. It was established in May 2016 in the state of Telangana. The main purpose of this society is to provide integrated assistance and support to women and children affected by violence. Through Bharosa centres established in multiple locations across the state, women and children will be able to access a range of emergency and non-emergency services, such as medical, legal, psychological and counselling support under one roof to fight against the various types of violence inflicted upon women and children.

Society is under the administrative control and supervision of the Women Safety Wing of Telangana Police. So far, Bharosa Centres have been established in 6 places in the state. The Honโ€™ble Supreme Court has termed this initiative as a best practice that should be replicated across the country.

To meet all the medical and essential needs of supporting women and children, the centres have various features to accommodate the multiple services. These centres will have conference rooms, counselling rooms for women and children, and a medical counselling room. Also, the centres are deployed with well-trained counsellors, who conduct outreach programs among the communities. Furthermore, it will also consist of a Police Officer room, Legal Support office, Statement Record Room, etc.
