The international transport and logistics provider is working with “Jugend Eine Welt” and their project partner “Salesians of Don Bosco” to help children and young people in Moldova who have been displaced from Ukraine. The project offers educational activities to help children better cope with trauma, aid their integration and provide stability during difficult times, the company said.
Urgent need of humanitarian aid
As of the end of June 2022, more than eight million Ukrainians have been displaced as a consequence of the war, according to reports by the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees). In addition, over 15 million people are in urgent need of humanitarian aid and protection. Around 5.5 million displaced people are registered as refugees in other European countries such as Poland, Romania, Moldova and Slovakia.
Helping young refugees from Ukraine to overcome trauma and aid
cargo-partner has been working for many years with the aid organization Jugend Eine Welt and their project partner, the Salesians of Don Bosco, to support educational and social projects for children and young people in need around the world. Since April 2022, the cargo partner has been supporting a project whose aim is to help young refugees from Ukraine to overcome trauma and aid their integration into society through a range of educational and leisure activities. This offer is also available to Moldovan children from difficult backgrounds. In total, the project benefits 40 refugee children and 40 Moldovan children.
Language lessons and psychological support
The Salesians of Don Bosco have been active in a poor district of the capital Chişinău since 2007, running a foster home, a vocational training center and a youth center. Since the start of the war, they have set up emergency shelters there and taken in refugees. Now the foundation has set up an educational project for children, young people and families hit by the crisis. The after-school program offers language classes and psychosocial services.
Overcoming trauma through sports and creativity
In addition, the summer camps also enjoy great popularity. Here, children and young people can take advantage of sports and creative activities while receiving psychological care. In addition, classes in reading, writing and IT are available on a voluntary basis, led by Ukrainian teachers. The camps are supervised by 14 animators, a psychotherapist and a doctor, and more than 160 children now take part each month.
