MUMBAI: YES BANK, India’s fifth largest private sector bank, has joined hands with the Konkan Railways to provide safe and clean drinking water across ‘D’ and ‘E’ category railway stations in the Konkan belt and other locations in Maharashtra by March 2016.
Launching the first phase of the project, YES BANK inaugurated the water purification systems at Madgaon and Majorda stations on February 19, 2016. The installation at Madgaon station was inaugurated by Narendra Keshav Sawaikar, Member of Parliament, South Goa and Sanjay Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director, Konkan Railways Corporation Ltd.
Narendra Keshav Sawaikar, Member of Parliament, noted at the event, “It is commendable that YES BANK has joined hands with Konkan Railways to provide access to safe and clean drinking water at smaller railway stations in the region and ensure positive social impact for the communities. This intervention will not only complement the government’s ongoing efforts but also emphasise on the need of better avenues for clean drinking water at public locations in order to improve public health at large.”
Speaking at the inauguration, Namita Vikas, Group President and Country Head, responsible Banking, YES BANK said, “This initiative by YES BANK is in sync with the Government’s vision to make safe and clean drinking water accessible to everyone and its resolve to modernize railway stations. Our aim is to aid the existing efforts undertaken by the Government and ensure a high socio-economic impact through community lead interventions.”
Going forward, YES BANK has committed to touch 100 million lives through its safe and clean drinking water program by 2020 at the prestigious COP21 at Paris last year to achieve a holistic impact.
