Why Is Disease-Specific Health Plan Necessary

In India, more and more people are suffering from health issues. With the rise in work-life imbalance and junk intake, the health issues in young adults have severely increased. Many people are suffering from diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, depression, blood pressure problems, and so on.

As the health concerns in people are rising, the need for a health insurance plan is becoming prominent. A comprehensive health insurance plan, like Bajaj health insurance, allows you to protect yourself and your family against unforeseen medical contingencies. In fact, insurers in India provide disease-specific health plans as well.

When it comes to disease-specific health plans, the policy is said to cover treatment and hospitalisation expenses related to specific health conditions. The health plan will cover the costs from diagnosis to advance treatments needed for recovery. 

Since the policy covers specific health issues, the premiums are affordable. You can use the health insurance premium calculator to determine the cost of comprehensive health insurance and disease-specific health insurance, and then choose a plan that best suits your needs.

 Disease-Specific Health Insurance
Purpose Of The PolicyIt is a standalone health insurance plan that covers the medical expenses for a particular treatment. Some insurers offer disease-specific plans as add-on cover on the basic health insurance policy.
Waiting PeriodWhen the policy is bought as a standalone health plan, the waiting period is usually 30 days. When bought as add-on cover, the waiting period is waived off, as it is already covered under the basic health plan.
Coverage Of The PolicyThe policy covers pre- and post-hospitalisation expenses, provides daily allowance, covers ambulance charges, and annual health check-ups.
Premiums ChargedWhen the policy is bought as a standalone plan, the premium amount is affordable. However, when bought as an add-on cover, the overall premium of your basic health plan will increase.

Should I Buy Disease-Specific Health Insurance?

If certain health conditions run in your family, it is wise to invest in a disease-specific health insurance plan. However, some health insurance providers in India cover some of these diseases in their primary health insurance policy. 

You can conduct intensive market research to shortlist your choices. It is important to note that these comprehensive health insurance plans come with slightly more premiums than disease-specific health plans. But despite expensive premiums, the policy will provide extensive coverage in times of unforeseen medical emergencies.

Since there are several health insurance plans available in the market, choosing the right one for yourself and your family can be confusing. So, consider comparing these plans online before you purchase any health policy. You can compare factors such as premiums, coverage, exclusions, claim settlement ratio of the insurer, etc. Based on the results, you will be able to make an informed decision.
