Significance of Choti Holi (Holika Dahan 2024):

Choti Holi commemorates the victory of good over evil through the legendary tale of Prahlad, a devotee of Lord Vishnu, and his evil aunt Holika. Holika, blessed with fireproof immunity, attempted to burn Prahlad in a bonfire. However, divine intervention saved Prahlad, while Holika perished in the flames. The burning of the bonfire during Choti Holi symbolizes the burning away of negativity and evil influences.

History of Choti Holi 2024

The legend associated with Choti Holi involves a demon king, Hiranyakashipu, who was granted a boon that he could not be killed by any man or animal. Drunk with power, Hiranyakashipu forced his subjects to worship him as their only God. However, his son, Prahlad, remained a devout follower of Lord Vishnu and refused to obey his father’s orders. Angered by his son’s defiance, Hiranyakashipu ordered his sister, Holika, to kill Prahlad. Holika, who had been granted a boon that protected her from fire, sat with Prahlad in a fire in an attempt to burn him. However, Prahlad’s devotion to Lord Vishnu saved him, and instead, Holika was burned to death.
