How does the BCI Project work?

The BCI project is designed to educate farmers on soil analysis test-based application of nutrients. Welspun Foundation collects soil samples from farmers every year, which are then used to provide information on the correct application of fertilizers and improve soil fertility. As part of this year’s initiative, a total of 77 soil samples were collected and sent for analysis to the Rajendranagar Govt. Soil Testing Lab.

One of the key aspects of the project is the soil sample testing activity, which was conducted as a one-on-one activity. Field staff from WF went to the field with the farmer to take the soil sample. In addition to the soil sample testing activity, WF also conducted collective farmers’ meetings and training. A total of 77 soil samples were taken from 38 villages as part of this year’s initiative. The highest soil samples were taken from Chevella Taluq, with 50 samples from 24 villages. The soil testing activity has helped educate the farmers about the correct application of fertilizers and improve soil fertility.

In which district the BCI project was launched?

The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) Project promotes sustainable farming practices and improves the livelihoods of cotton farmers in Ranga Reddy District. It aims to empower farmers with the knowledge and skills to adopt sustainable farming practices. Ranga Reddy district is a district in the Indian state of Telangana. The district headquarters is located at Lakdikapool, Hyderabad. The district was named after the former deputy chief minister of the United Andhra Pradesh, K. V. Ranga Reddy.
