The national level e-governance programme called National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) was initiated in 2006 by the Government of India.
E-governance is Electronic Governance. It is an application or use of Information and communication Technology (ICT) for delivering services, exchanging information, communication, interaction with business enterprises or different agencies whether private or government agencies. In short it facilitates governance at all the levels through ICT integration. It allows efficient, fast, convenient and transparent governance in-fact it can be called as boundaryless governance.
There are three main target groups in the concept of governance, those are Government, Citizens and Business. There can be different types of E-governance like: Government to Citizen (G2C), Govern-ment-to-Business (G2B), Government-to-Government (G2G) and Government-to-Employees (G2E).
The national level e-governance programme called National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) was initiated in 2006 by the Government of India.
There were various Mission Mode Projects under the National e-Governance Plan covering a wide range of domains viz. agriculture, land records, health, education, passports, police, courts, municipalities, commercial taxes and treasuries etc.
24 Mission Mode Projects have been implemented and started delivering either full or partial range of envisaged services.
Considering the shortcomings in National e-Governance Plan that included lack of integration amongst Government applications and databases, low degree of government process re-engineering, scope for leveraging emerging technologies like mobile and cloud etc.
