MUMBAI: Presently Saksham our jewelry manufacturing and diamond processing training institute for PWD’s has been functioning at Hyderabad. We plan to replicate the same success story at Surat and Mumbai which are jewelry and diamond manufacturing hubs of India. The number of PwD’s working with us presently is 250 and we plan to increase this to 500 in the next 3 years, Mayuri Asar, Manager CSR, Gitanjali Group, said INDIACSR today.
“We are employing close to 250 PWD in our organization and there is nothing that gives us a greater satisfaction than seeing a smile on their face and satisfaction in their eyes. We are able to support the disabled under privileges youth in Hyderabad. we have embraced the policy of inclusive work culture where improving efficiency, productivity, and overall business success.” she added.
Gitanjali is a diamond and jewellery retailer company with a separate CSR division. The aim of the CSR division is:
- To catalyze and accelerate social progress and make a difference to the society at large
- To work hand-in-hand with those striving for community upliftment
- To make a qualitative difference to the lives of the underprivileged in health, education and other sectors
- To assist in the empowerment of people with disabilities and help them integrate into society
Gitanjali Group believes in enhancing standards in key areas like employment and empowerment of the People with Disability (PWD), education for the underprivileged, Health, Training, she said.
We are working evolve the standards of our CSR initiatives and to build a safe and secure working environment through conducting various programs like first aid training, awareness programs, blood donation camps etc continuously.
We provide donations to various philanthropic projects and support various organizations and causes for the social and economic development of the community at large. We have have a various initiatives through which we can contribute to social causes.
CSR goes beyond legal requirements. We involve local NGO’s, government support, media and most importantly as many employee as possible in our initiatives. It is important that we not just speak words but prove our intentions with actions.
Mayuri said, “we try to invest in meaningful community projects that serve to enhance the quality of life across the communities. We address important social issues through initiatives can move toward self-sustainability and economic growth.”
“We understand that CSR is a long term end Endeavour and a road full of hurdles . But we believe in converting the hurdles into opportunities for growth and further improvement.” she added.
“Our business does not exist in isolation. We have an impact on our people, suppliers, contractors, customers and the local community where we operate. Taking all into confidence and then making a impact on the society at large is the biggest challenge faced .” she said.
