JHARSUGUDA: Vedanta Limited felicitated ninety six students who were enrolled in its flagship CSR program, Vedanta Vidyarthi Vikas Yojana (VVVY), on their superlative performance in the state Matriculation exams (HSC), this Saturday.
The occasion was graced by Dr. Sitaram Patel, the ADM of Jharsuguda as the Chief Guest along with Mitrabhanu Kachhap, DEO.
Representing Vedanta at the occasion were D.N. Behera, Sr. Vice President and Head Aluminium Operation, Vedanta Ltd, Jharsuguda, Nishant Kumar, the Head of CSR, Jharsuguda and Gautam Behera,Secretary AJKA(Aanchalik Jan Kalyan Anushthan).
The Vedanta Vidyarthi Vikas Yojana (VVVY) was formed with the intention of providing supplementary and remedial support to students from the 8th to 10th standard of the ten peripheral villages. Vedanta has partnered with one of the best educational expert NGO, Anchalik Jana Kalyan Anusthan (AJKA) to implement the project.
Since its inception in 2009, this organization has succeeded in improving the overall pass percentage from a meagre 18% to a once seemingly impossible 96%. This program has kept on growing and it encompasses moral skill education, monthly exams and regular morning classes as well as parents teachers meetings.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sitaram Patel congratulated the students on their performance and commended Vedanta Limited on this initiative saying it provided hope to the children and further complimented the organization on laying the foundation for a better society. He emphasized on the connection between the individual, the society and the country.
He also spoke about how the realization of one’s potential and utilizing it for the service of the country will ultimately result in the progress and development of the country. This wealth will finally trickle down to the people and result in growth for everybody.
Mr. D.N. Behera, speaking on the occasion, also addressed the students where he commended their efforts and urged them to continue to think forward. He also emphasized on the importance of education and the role it plays in bettering the lives of individual as well as community.
Mitrabhanu Kacchap, the DEO of Jharsuguda also addressed the audience where he lauded the efforts of the organization in tirelessly helping students gain confidence by performing well in their exams.
The top three highest scorers, Sonali Bag (87.16%), Dikhyarani Padhi (77.16%) and Tilottama Kishan (75.66%)were felicitated with mementos and cash awards. Other students were also felicitated. The success of this project over the course of time has brought about an extremely positive shift in the mindsets of the students and has given hope to the students as well as to the parents of the beneficiary villages.
