LANJIGARH: Vedanta felicitated young sprinter Pragyan Parimita Kumar on 16 April 2016 in a function organized at its CSR office campus. The young athlete has won two gold medals in recently held national level Special Olympics from 14 to March 2016 at Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. Hailed from a small village Bijepur near Lanjigarh, she is just 12 years.
Jalaj Malpani, Head Finance, Vedanta limited, Lanjigarh presented a tracksuit, memento and a cash reward of rupees ten thousand to Pragyan in presence of her parents, Lambodar Kumar and Mrs. Prakasini Kumar.
During the annual day celebration of Yuva Pragati Kendra and Rural BPO, Sanjeev Das, Director, FIDR, Sridhar Pesnia, MP Representative, Rajendra Pratap Singh Deo, Zilla parishad member, Binod Gaud, President, youth association, Lanjigarh and Jalaj Malpani graced the occasion as distinguished guests among others.
Successful students were also rewarded during the program. In partnership with NGO FIDR, Vedanta has set up Yuva Pragati Kendra in the year 2015 at Lanjigarh to impart basic examination preparation coaching to local unemployed youth. Expert teachers guide the students in basic calculations, English speaking skills, computer operations, etc. so that they can get a good placement in an enterprise. Till date, 30 youths have been placed in various enterprises across the country.
Addressing the gathering Jalaj Malpani applauded the achievement of Pragyan and wished her the best for her future. He reiterated the effort of Vedanta towards community services in the field of Education, Health, alternative livelihoods, women empowerment and infrastructure developments through various CSR initiatives. Later in the evening, a cultural program was also organized. Ranjan Sharma, Head CSR, Vedanta limited, Lanjigarh, Vedanta CSR team and team FIDR coordinated the event.
