LANJIGARH: Vedanta’s crusade to provide good health services to the people in and around Lanjigarh has seen it facilitate 91 cataract patients for operation.
In partnership with Vedanta Hospital, a health service NGO – Punarutthan and Jagannath Sewa Sadan, Bhawanipatna, 7 November 2016 marked the fourth phase of the campaign this year.
45 patients from various villages in Lanjigarh block such as Niyamgiri Vedanta Nagar, Bundel, Lanjigarh, Rengopali, Belamba, Bhandaripadar, Kutingpadar, Champadaipur, Dephapaguda, Baraikupli, Badadhaikhal, Betelima, Ambadola and Chhatrapur etc. were referred for the cataract operation and operated with utmost care in the eye-hospital.
After the successful operation, on 19 November, 91 patients including the patients of third phase were counselled by the expert doctors in Vedanta Hospital.
Sukanta Tripathy, Sub-collector, Kalahandi; Pitambar Bhoi, BDO, Lanjigarh Block; Bimalananda Senapati, Plant Head, Vedanta limited, Lanjigarh; Sridhar Pesnia, President, Lanjigarh Anchalik Bikash Parisha; Ranjan Sharma, Head CSR and Dr. Akshya Sahu were present during the occasion.
After checkups, patients were presented with quilts, slippers, umbrellas and a shawl by the dignitaries. Three new ambulances were also flagged off by the guests for medical services.
More than 240 new eye-patients were also enrolled on the same day. It is noteworthy that till date 181 cataract patients in the region have been successfully operated upon in the FY 2016-17.
Tripathy appreciated the efforts of Vedanta and wished it would continue further. Senapati reiterated the efforts of Vedanta in CSR and assured the effort would continue for the benefit of the community.
Sridhar Pesnia was optimistic when he said that after inception of Vedanta, the people of the region could see a ray of development. Vedanta has thus been doing many developmental activities for the people of Lanjigarh and its peripheral villages.
