BANGALORE (India CSR): Uravu, a Bangalore-based startup dedicated to transforming water infrastructure for the 21st century, has successfully completed a funding round led by AWE Funds. Although the exact investment amount has not been disclosed, this funding is expected to significantly enhance Uravu’s capacity to provide sustainable water sourcing solutions through its innovative liquid desiccant technology, which converts atmospheric moisture into high-quality water without carbon emissions.
Innovative Technology for Sustainable Water Sourcing
Uravu’s pioneering approach addresses the critical issue of groundwater depletion, particularly in the hospitality sector, while also eyeing expansion into pharmaceuticals and green hydrogen. By utilizing liquid desiccants to extract moisture from the air, Uravu can generate water using renewable energy sources like solar power and waste heat, effectively creating decentralized water sources.
“This funding support will help us grow our capacity and achieve key milestones in our premium beverage segment while furthering our commercial and industrial offerings,” said Swapnil Shrivastav, Co-Founder & CEO of Uravu. “By producing water from air, we eliminate the need for groundwater, positioning Uravu as a leader in sustainable water solutions.”
Expanding the Beverage Portfolio
The new funding will allow Uravu to enhance its premium beverage model, which currently supplies over 4,000 liters of water daily to more than 55 hospitality clients in Bangalore, including prestigious establishments like The Leela, Royal Orchid, and Hyatt Centric. The company is also developing specialized beverages such as tonic water and ginger ale to diversify its offerings.
Aiming for Broader Impact
Uravu plans to install water-from-air units in residential buildings, tech parks, schools, and corporate campuses, providing over 2,000 liters of drinking water daily. These installations aim to offer a continuous water supply at costs comparable to existing options while significantly reducing groundwater usage.
“Uravu’s innovative approach to water generation addresses one of the most pressing challenges of our time, water scarcity,” said Seema Chaturvedi, Founding Partner at AWE Funds. “We are excited to support their journey to becoming a leader in generating zero-carbon water solutions across India and international markets.”
Looking forward, Uravu targets industries requiring large water volumes, including pharmaceuticals and data centers, which may need over 50,000 liters daily per installation. With a total addressable market valued at over USD 320 billion, Uravu is poised to lead in sustainable water solutions, building upon prior investments from mission-aligned investors like Speciale Invest, Anicut Capital, and Rocketship.vc.
