UPES Delights with Thrilling Finale and Heartfelt Tributes
LUCKNOW (India CSR): UPES concluded the 10th edition of the Shaheed Memorial Cricket Tournament on January 16, 2024, with a nail-biting final and a spirit of unwavering respect for the sacrifices of Indian Armed Forces martyrs. This annual event, held under Project Naman, serves as a poignant tribute to fallen heroes while offering financial support to their families.
A Tournament Steeped in Sportsmanship and Honor
The final match between UPES Blue and School Education kept the audience on the edge of their seats. UPES Blue emerged victorious by six wickets, with Touseef Iqbal claiming the “Man of the Match” title. Mohit Miyan from the winning team shone brightly, bagging both “Best Batsman” and “Player of the Tournament” accolades. School Education’s Prabhat Singh Pundir received the well-deserved recognition of “Best Bowler of the Tournament.”
Remembering a Hero: Project Naman Continues its Legacy
This year’s tournament held special significance, honoring the memory of Late Lance Naik Ruchin Rawat, who bravely gave his life during ‘Operation Trinetra’ in Jammu and Kashmir. Project Naman, staying true to its mission, extended ₹500,000 in financial aid, a job opportunity for a family member, and free education for the martyr’s kin.
Eight Teams Vie for Glory: A Display of Grit and Determination
The tournament saw fierce competition from eight teams across Uttarakhand, including UPES Blue, MDDA, Agriculture, Irrigation, Pay Jal Nigam, School Education, UJVNL, and Jal Sansthan. Each team displayed remarkable skill and sportsmanship, making the event a true celebration of cricket’s unifying spirit.
