For many students, who have just completed their board exams, the process of getting into top design colleges in India and preparing for their entrance exams like NID, UCEED, and NIFT can be daunting. This guide aims to simplify that process and help you find the ideal path for choosing a college and respective entrance exam.

Design Entrance Exams in India

With roughly 3 lakh students competing for only a few thousand available spots in design programs, the entrance process is undeniably challenging. One of the easy ways to navigate through this tough competition is to make a list of the design entrance exams in India, their exam dates, syllabus, strategies, etc to have all the information handy, in a blink of an eye.

NID Entrance Exam 2025

The National Institute of Design conducts a Design Aptitude Test, commonly referred to as NID DAT. It is a two-tiered screening process, comprising preliminary and mains exams. 

The exam is conducted annually for admission to B.Des. and M.Des. programmes at NID campuses. The NID entrance exam evaluates candidates’ knowledge, skills, and behavioural talents.

Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED 2025)

Admissions to the BDes programme at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Indore, IIT Roorkee and IIITDM Jabalpur is based on the students performance in UCEED exam. The exam is conducted by IIT Bombay under the guidance of the UCEED-CEED Implementation Committee 2025.

National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Entrance Exam 2025

NIFT offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs across 18 campuses. The NIFT grants admission through the NIFT entrance exam conducted once a year and includes General Aptitude Test (GAT) as well as Creative Aptitude Test (CAT).

Other Notable Design Entrance Exams in India

In addition to the above mentioned top design entrance exams in India, other commonly accepted exams are CEED, AIEED, and SEED. All these exams are conducted at different levels and by different institutes. One can choose and prepare accordingly.

  • CEED (Common Entrance Examination for Design): It is a national-level exam for postgraduate design programs. 
  • AIEED (All India Entrance Examination for Design): This exam is also for admission to design programs, but it’s not as widely known as UCEED or CEED. 
  • SEED (Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design): It is conducted by the Symbiosis Institute of Design, It is a national-level exam for admission to design programs. 
  • UID Entrance Exam: Unitedworld Institute of Design conducts its own entrance exam for admission to UG and PG design programs. 
  • Pearl Academy Entrance Exam: is an institute-level entrance exam conducted by Pearl Academy to grant admission in design courses.
