Telangana’s bold initiatives aim to position the state as a global leader in AI innovation, with new AI City and school curriculum at the forefront.

NEW DELHI (India CSR): Telangana is making groundbreaking strides toward becoming India’s hub for artificial intelligence (AI). At the heart of its ambitious AI strategy is the launch of the AI City—a 200-acre hub near Hyderabad, dedicated to AI research and development. In addition, the state is introducing an AI curriculum in schools, focusing on preparing students for the future of AI careers. With 26 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed, Telangana is well on its way to becoming a leader in AI innovation.

Here are 11 key takeaways from Telangana’s strategic push to become an AI powerhouse:

1. Establishment of AI City

Telangana is laying the groundwork for the AI City, a 200-acre hub designed to foster AI research, development, and application. Located near Hyderabad, this AI City will offer cutting-edge compute facilities, expansive data lakes, and robust connectivity to ensure a thriving AI ecosystem. The AI City is poised to make Telangana a global hub for AI innovations.

AI City’s Role in Global AI Leadership

The AI City is set to be a cradle for groundbreaking advancements, solidifying Telangana’s status as a technological powerhouse. The state aims to attract global AI giants and startups to collaborate on developing AI-driven solutions that will shape the future of technology.

2. Introduction of AI School Curriculum

Starting in the academic year 2025-26, Telangana will introduce an AI curriculum for students aged 15 to 18. The curriculum will cover foundational AI knowledge, preparing students for careers in AI and ensuring they understand the ethical implications of AI use.

AI Education for the Future

By 2027, the AI curriculum will be implemented in all senior secondary schools across Telangana. This initiative will equip students with the skills necessary to thrive in the AI-powered world, ensuring they are prepared for future AI-related opportunities.

3. Impact on 5 Lakh Students

Telangana’s AI curriculum is expected to impact around 5 lakh students across 5,000 government schools by 2027. This large-scale rollout will involve extensive teacher training and curriculum enhancement, creating a comprehensive learning ecosystem for AI education.

Empowering the Next Generation

The state aims to cultivate a generation of students who are AI-literate and capable of navigating the AI-driven future. This initiative underscores Telangana’s commitment to fostering a skilled workforce ready for the AI revolution.

4. 26 MoUs to Drive AI Growth

Telangana’s government has signed 26 MoUs with prominent academic institutions, big-tech companies, startups, and non-profit organizations. These partnerships are aimed at creating a robust AI infrastructure, promoting AI innovation, and ensuring the state’s leadership in AI development.

Key Areas of AI Collaboration

The MoUs focus on seven critical areas: Compute Infrastructure, Centre of Excellence, Skilling, Impact Assessment, Startup Innovation, Generative AI, and Data Annotation. These collaborations will lay the foundation for Telangana’s transformation into an AI superpower.

The state’s forward-thinking approach is not only preparing its students and workforce for the future but also driving economic growth and positioning Telangana as a global leader in the AI revolution.

5. AI-Powered Public Services

Through a two-year partnership with Meta, Telangana aims to enhance public services using AI. This collaboration will leverage Meta’s open-source AI technologies, such as the Llama 3.1 model, to improve e-governance and citizen services across the state.

Meta’s Role in Telangana’s AI Journey

Meta’s involvement will empower public officials and citizens by providing access to cutting-edge AI solutions, revolutionizing the way government departments operate and deliver services to the public.

6. AI Curriculum in Senior Secondary Schools

By 2027, Telangana aims to have AI curriculum coverage in 100% of its senior secondary schools. This bold initiative reflects the state’s commitment to AI education and its desire to empower students with future-ready skills.

Pioneering AI Education in India

Telangana is among the first states in India to integrate AI into its school curriculum, setting a precedent for other states to follow. This move will ensure that Telangana’s students are well-equipped for the digital age.

7. AI City to Attract Global AI Talent

The AI City is designed to attract AI talent from across the globe. With cutting-edge infrastructure, Telangana hopes to become a hotspot for AI research, innovation, and application.

Building a Global AI Ecosystem

By fostering a collaborative environment, Telangana aims to become a center for AI talent and innovation, drawing researchers, developers, and companies from around the world to contribute to the state’s AI-driven future.

8. AI’s Role in Economic Growth

Telangana’s AI initiatives align with its broader goal of becoming a USD 1 trillion economy in the near future and a USD 3 trillion economy within the next decade. AI is seen as a critical driver of economic growth for the state.

AI as an Economic Catalyst

By integrating AI into various sectors, Telangana aims to boost productivity, innovation, and economic output, positioning itself as a leader in India’s tech-driven economy.

With the launch of the AI City, the introduction of AI in schools, and strategic partnerships with global tech companies, Telangana is well-positioned to lead the nation—and the world—in AI innovation.

9. Skilling the Workforce for AI

One of the key focuses of Telangana’s AI strategy is skilling the workforce to meet the demands of AI-driven industries. The MoUs signed emphasize AI training and development programs to upskill workers in AI technologies.

Creating a Future-Ready Workforce

The state is committed to ensuring its workforce is equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in an AI-driven world, fostering a talent pool that will drive the AI revolution.

10. Generative AI for Innovation

Generative AI is one of the critical focus areas for Telangana’s AI strategy. The state is partnering with global tech companies to explore the potential of generative AI and how it can be leveraged for innovation and economic growth.

Harnessing the Power of Generative AI

Generative AI will be used to develop innovative solutions across various sectors, from healthcare to education, ensuring that Telangana remains at the forefront of AI advancements.

11. Secure and Ethical AI Development

Telangana’s AI curriculum and partnerships emphasize the importance of secure and ethical AI development. The state is committed to ensuring that AI technologies are used responsibly and that students and developers understand the ethical implications of AI use.

AI with Integrity

By prioritizing secure and ethical AI development, Telangana is setting an example for how AI can be harnessed for the greater good while mitigating risks and ensuring transparency.
