TCS Exceeds CSR Obligations with Rs 827 Crore Expenditure in FY 2023-24

NEW DELHI (India CSR): Tata Consultancy Services Limited (TCS), a global leader in IT services, consulting, and business solutions, has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to corporate social responsibility. In the financial year 2023-24, despite numerous financial obligations, TCS not only met but exceeded its statutory CSR expenditure requirements.

Financial Commitment and Expenditure

For the fiscal year 2023-24, TCS set aside Rs 850 crore, equivalent to 2% of its average net profit, for its CSR activities, as mandated by Section 135 of the Companies Act. This allocation underscores the company’s strategic intent to integrate social responsibility with its business objectives. By the end of the year, TCS reported a total CSR expenditure of Rs 827 crore. This expenditure not only complies with the legal requirements but also indicates an efficient and effective use of allocated resources towards meaningful and impactful CSR initiatives.

Strategic Impact and Corporate Vision

The funds were channelled into various projects that address critical areas such as education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability. TCS’s CSR efforts are designed to create substantial, long-lasting impacts, fostering development and improving quality of life for millions. This strategy aligns with TCS’s vision to empower communities and ensure that the benefits of technology and business growth are shared widely and equitably.

CSR Financial Commitment Overview

The company earmarked Rs 850 crore, constituting 2% of its average net profit, for CSR activities as mandated by law. Despite various financial obligations, TCS managed to spend a total of Rs 827 crore on various CSR initiatives, surpassing its mandatory expenditure requirement.

Allocation and Utilization of Funds

  • Direct Project Funding: TCS spent Rs 813 crore on ongoing and new CSR projects, focusing on sectors like education, healthcare, and rural development.
  • Administrative Overheads: An amount of Rs 14 crore was allocated for the administrative aspects of these initiatives, ensuring that projects are efficiently managed and executed.
  • Impact Assessment: There was no separate expenditure on impact assessment this year, reflecting a strategic deployment of funds directly into project activities.

Strategic Impact Initiatives

TCS’s CSR programs have made significant strides in empowering over 7 million individuals across various communities, particularly those with the greatest needs. The company has effectively utilized its core strengths to drive substantial socio-economic advancements.

Key Impact Areas

  • Socio-Economic Mobility: Approximately 797,749 people benefited from programs aimed at enhancing socio-economic stability and mobility.
  • Women’s Empowerment: Efforts to build equitable pathways resulted in significant advancements for 405,775 women.
  • Youth Engagement: About 455,692 young individuals received support through educational and skill development programs.
  • Support for Marginalized Groups: A significant focus was placed on aiding 547,311 individuals from marginalized communities, helping them overcome barriers and achieve self-sufficiency.
