Berhampur: Tata Steel will construct 5 model schools in Ganjam district to help upgrade education infrastructure of the district. The foundation stone of one school was laid today at Jamogorada village of Gandadhar panchayat in Jagannathprasad block of the district by Sj Bikram Keshari Arukha, Minister, Forest & Environment and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Odisha, Smt. Pratyusha Rajeswari Singh, MP, Kandhamal in presence of Sj. Arun Misra, Vice President, Gopalpur Project and Managing Director, Tata Steel SEZ.
Tata Steel is committed to construct 30 model schools in 30 blocks across the state at a cost of around Rs 135 crore. The other 4 model schools of Ganjam district will be constructed at Aska, Bhanjanagar, Buguda and Bellaguntha blocks.
This initiative of the steel major is part of the grand plan of Government of Odisha for setting up such Model Schools in each Block of the State.
To be built on 9 acres of land, the school at Jagannathprasad will include a two storey school building of 24,500 square feet built up area. Along with the building, Tata Steel will also provide the required furniture to the school.
Jamshedpur Utilities and Services Company (JUSCO), a Tata Steel subsidiary company, will be responsible for the construction of the schools. After completion of the construction, the schools will be handed over to the State Government.
Among others present during the ceremony were Sj. Manikanta Naik, Chief Resident Executive, Tata Steel, Sj Sanjeev Jha, EIC, JUSCO, along with other officials of district administration, JUSCO, Tata Steel and local villagers.
