BERHAMPUR: With an aim of augmenting employability of the youth through quality technical job enabled training, Tata Steel has set up ‘Tata Steel Skill Development Center’ at Khodasingi, Berhampur in collaboration with NIIT Foundation, a Non-Profit implementing organization that focuses on providing employability skills to underserved youth of India.
The centre was inaugurated today by Dr. Sarthak Sarangi, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Berhampur in the presence of Shri. Sushanta Mishra, Chief, Project Gopalpur & SEZ, Tata Steel and Shri. Saquib Beg, Cluster Head, NIIT Foundation, New Delhi. Inaugurating the centre, Dr. Sarangi said that Information Technology now plays a pivotal role in advancing social good for emancipating the vast youth force from mediocrity and backwardness.
Lauding Tata Steel’s contribution in pioneering the knowledge management process for Berhampur along with adjacent areas, Dr. Sarangi added that the students of the programme should take maximum benefit out of the training. Briefing about the Centre, Shri. Sushanta Mishra, Chief, Project Gopalpur & SEZ, Tata Steel said that this effort aims at imparting effective computer education and learning experiences through innovative technologies thereby improving employability of the local youth.
Through this initiative, backed by the industry recognised NIIT group certification, the local students of Berhampur and of the region within the age group of 12 to 25 will gain affordable IT training for three months. Apart from this, the skill development centre will also provide two 6-month programmes on Spoken English for different levels of students enabling them to face the challenging demands of industry.
The event was attended by Shri. C. Thomas, Chief, Security, Tata Steel; Shri. Biraja Prasanna Mishra, Head, Administration, Tata Steel; Shri. R. K. Singh, Head, R & R, Tata Steel along with other officials of Tata Steel and parents of the students.
For improving the employability of the local youth of Ganjam, Tata Steel has been taking numerous initiatives including setting up of JN Tata Technical Training Education Centre at Gopalpur and PACE Skill Development Centre at Sheragada block.
