JAMSHEDPUR: A number of events were conducted by Tata Steel to observe World Health Day. The Tata Main Hospital (TMH), Jamshedpur observed World Health Day today with a seminar held at the TMH auditorium on the subject ‘Adding Life to Years’. A large number of senior citizens of Jamshedpur participated in the programme.
The speakers in the seminar dwelt upon a number of topics like the ways of keeping the mind and body healthy with increasing age, providing nursing care at home for the elderly, role of alternative medicine and ensuring proper safety measures built into houses the elderly live in. The seminar also included an interactive question and answer session where the audience sought clarifications from the speakers on various age related issues.
TMH also organized a Nukkad Natak outside its campus main gate with the theme ‘Role of Family and Community in the Care of Elders’ for spreading awareness among the general public.
With such interactions among the community, TMH aims to enrich the lives of the people of Jamshedpur especially enabling a life of dignity for our elderly citizens who in the past have shaped our present.
In a similar endeavour to benefit the society, Corporate Sustainability Services, through its wing Family Initiatives & Health, organized a health check up camp for all the inmates of The Old Age Home situated at Baradwari.
Around 103 old people in the Home were diagnosed and medicines were prescribed by eminent doctors from TMH like Dr Pushpa Tiwari, Sr Registrar, FI & Health; Dr Girish Sharma, Registrar, FI& Health; Dr Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, Specialist, Psychiatry, Tata Main Hospital
The inmates were diagnosed for general ailments, blood pressure and psychiatric diseases.
World Health Day has been observed by World Health Organization (WHO) every year on April 7 since its establishment in 1948. The theme for 2012 is “Ageing and is rapidly ageing and it is estimated that by the year 2050 the elderly will Health” in recognition of the issues affecting the elderly across the world such as various health problems and social problems like loneliness, discrimination, deprivation of love and respect and support from family and community. The global population would outnumber children less than 14 years which underscores the relevance of the World Health Day 2012 theme.
