LANJIGARH: Vedanta, in partnership with District Agriculture Department, NABARD and partner NGO – SANDHAN has undertaken solar irrigation project in Lanjigarh region.
Frequent power-cuts and perennial problems in supplying requisite water for irrigation purposes have been pertinent issues in the vicinity.
In order to tackle the problem, 30 solar pump systems are slated to be installed in the affected areas. More than 150 acres of land and resident farmers will be benefitted due to this ambitious project.
This project was inaugurated the previous Saturday. Eradication of malnutrition in the region through best practices in farming and irrigation would address grass-root level issues in the society and help the people lead healthy lives.
The solar irrigation system would be a major driver in solving the frequent power disruption and regularizing the water supply for multi-cropping practices in the region.
In the first phase of the project, five farmers from Basantpada and Kapaguda village – Padman Mali, Parsuram Naik, Karunakar Mali, Purna Chandra Mali and Chaitanya Nayak have been benefitted immediately. Rest of the 25 solar pumps are to be installed soon covering other beneficiaries.
