Education is a human right with the power to transform and add purpose to an individual’s life. As India progresses incessantly as a global power, it is important to strengthen the country’s roots by emphasizing quality education for all sections of society. Quality education in a diverse country like ours will be multifaceted, with immense variability found in the abundance of regional knowledge available. It is important to identify the crucial elements and subjects amid the plethora of literature to prepare the younger generations according to industry demands. In order to step up in this noble effort, many corporates as part of their CSR venture provide skill development training and education supplies to the underprivileged sections ultimately strengthening the societal foundations.

According to the India Skill Report 2023, there is an improvement in overall employability among young people, increasing from 46.2 percent to 50.3 percent this year. Additionally, the employable women workforce has risen significantly to 52.8 percent, surpassing the employability rate of men at 47.2 percent. Some of the sectors that will have increasing job opportunities in the coming years include retail, real estate, construction, renewable energy, and manufacturing.

Social benefits of community education:

Community well-being is an overarching goal that, upon proper execution, promises to deliver significant social benefits:

  • Equality in society: Access to quality education and skill development opens the door to equal opportunities for people from different socio-economic backgrounds, uplifting their communities at large in the long run. Basic infra and facilities also plays a key role in maintaining equality of access to opportunities,  promoting eco-friendly and sustainable society, enhanced facilities in schools and training centres, with other learning related and school supplies help in bridging the gap.
  • Aware and Healthier community: Imparting quality education to the underprivileged sections of society leads to the development of an aware and healthier community. The importance of hygiene, cleaner surroundings, and a better environment cannot be understated for holistic development.
  • Civic Engagement: Skilled individuals from marginalized sections of society act as role models for the younger members of the community. This leads to the enhancement of better civic infrastructure and a sense of community well-being among a wider group.

Key Essentials in Skill Development:

Skill development enhances individual capabilities, improves employability, fosters economic growth, and contributes to a more cohesive and resilient society. In order to fully optimize the practice of skill development, here are some key essentials to consider:

  • Inclusive design: A large section of young children fail to enter the formal education setup at the right age due to their economic background. Programs focusing on community development should be developed with an inclusive vision to inculcate students with formal education irrespective of factors like gender, disability, and age.

Market alignment for courses: The success of these programs depends on making the content of these courses market-relevant based on the job roles available to ensure employability and relevance in the long run.

  • Relevance to local economies for partnerships: The training provided as part of skill development should also focus on fostering partnerships between the public & private sectors, NGOs, and educational institutions to leverage their resources, expertise, and networks for the creation of an effective and well-rounded skill development curriculum.
  • Monitoring and evaluation: For an engaging and interactive discourse, it is important to closely look at the implementation of different study modules in the classes/sessions with the students. While some can be shared as part of a group workshop, some programs will need participation on an individual basis. The role of participant feedback is paramount in skill development as it gives the trainer insight into the shortcomings of the available training material. This practice will also lead to evaluation at timely intervals to keep the content relevant and significant for every community member.
  • Innovation and adaptability: Technology changes every day, and with its integration into every industry, adaptability to new challenges has become an unsaid demand from industry experts. Even during the training course for a skill, the core learning for every member should be to evolve and pace up their skill set based on industry demands. This will make them empowered and always equipped with the necessary knowledge to build innovative products and services based on market trends.

In conclusion, quality education is distinguished by its inclination towards skill development. It offers a conducive approach for community well-being, cultivating a culture of growth and self-reliance among the underprivileged sections of society.
