Sanjay Prakash has been serving as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of SBI Foundation since July 27, 2022. A seasoned banking professional with over three decades of experience, he has been a part of the State Bank of India (SBI) since 1990, where he held diverse roles across operations, IT, HR, and community engagement.
Academic Background
A graduate in Science with Honours in Statistics from Patna University, Sanjay Prakash began his career in the rural heartlands of Jharkhand’s Santhal Parganas. His extensive career has seen him lead various branches in both rural and urban centres, manage large retail and IT portfolios, and oversee key administrative and HR functions at SBI.
HR and Industrial Relations Expertise
During his tenure as Deputy General Manager (Industrial Relations) at SBI’s Corporate Centre, Mumbai, he played a pivotal role in maintaining a harmonious industrial relations environment, managing staff welfare programs, and ensuring smooth coordination with unions and associations—particularly during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic period.
Regional and Departmental Leadership
He also served as Regional Manager of the Jamshedpur Region and later headed the IT Services and Human Resources Departments at the Local Head Office in Patna, demonstrating strong leadership in both technology-driven and people-centric functions.

Having worked extensively in remote and underprivileged regions, Sanjay Prakash has developed a deep empathy for marginalized communities.
