CHANDIGARH: The discharge of corporate social responsibility by way of sponsoring sport events is a novel idea and a lot of companies are indulging in various efforts aimed at giving back to the society. A sport, more than any other potential vehicle, contains qualities that make it a powerful force in effecting positive social contributions.

Services Company, recently sponsored Men’s Cricket Challenge Cup T20 in Chandigarh with the purpose of helping talented, but financially weak bunch of cricketers showcase their skills in an organized match.
“The championship was an initiative of the Rudraksh Group aimed at providing opportunities to budding, prospective Indian cricketers. We sponsored their cricket gear and kits, booked a proper stadium, roped in professional umpires, made arrangements for refreshments and much more. We also created a championship trophy to instill a sense of achievement in youngsters. The atmosphere was fun-filled and everyone went back feeling rejuvenated,” said a company’s spokesperson. Incidentally, the match went down to the wire.
The 20-over match was between the Mohali Panthers and Chandigarh Tigers. Chandigarh Tigers, after winning the toss, scored a modest 123/8. Although they fought hard, it was not enough. Mohali Panthers won the match comfortably by losing only four wickets and bagged the championship trophy. Ujwal Kumar bagged the man-of-the-match award, with Vijay Singh scoring 51 and Karan grabbing four wickets.
The match was sponsored by the Rudraksh Group under the Philanthropic team building activities. The Group is known to organize such activities from time to time and believes it’s important to give back to society.
