RAIGARH (India CSR) – A tragic accident at Agroha Iron and Power Private Limited has claimed the life of a young worker. Umesh Chauhan, 19, was critically injured when hot ash suddenly fell on him while he was working in the plant’s heat exchanger section. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries, highlighting persistent safety lapses in the district’s industrial sector.
How the Accident Happened
According to police and company sources, Umesh Chauhan, a resident of Chanwarpur village in Lailunga, had been working at Agroha Steel Plant for the past three to four months. On September 24, around 12:30 PM, he was emptying hot ash in the heat exchanger section when a sudden spill fell on him.
Initially unaware of the danger, Umesh was severely burned before he could react. Fellow workers nearby immediately alerted the company management and contacted the police.
Police Swiftly Respond
Upon receiving the report, Raigarh’s Poonjipathra Police Station in-charge Rakesh Mishra dispatched Assistant Sub-Inspector Jayram Sidar and Constable Satish Singh to the plant. Umesh was rushed by ambulance to Raigarh District Hospital, where doctors declared him dead after primary examination.
His body was later handed over to his grieving family following a post-mortem on Thursday. The police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
Safety Failures Behind the Tragedy
Sources indicate that the heat exchanger section lacked adequate safety measures. Umesh, the sole earning member of a modest family, had joined the plant hoping to support his family through honest labor. Tragically, the absence of proper safety protocols led to his untimely death.
Both the police and company management are investigating the incident to prevent similar accidents in the future.
