Telangana – The National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR) join hands with public sector enterprise- Bharat Dynamic Limited (BDL) to create awareness about menstruation and hygiene to the children at government schools in the state.
Over 11,516 students enrolled in 75 government schools in 5 mandals of Telangana will be benefited by the project, IANS reported quoting the institution.
The project would expand to 22 more Mandals in next phase, the report said.
A government enterprise, BDL under the Ministry of Defense has provided the funding of Rs 71.82 lakh which has approached NIRDPR to implement the project, the report further said.
According to the department of secondary education, there are 38,656 girl students studying in 419 government schools in the state.
The project aims at supplying free sanitary napkins to the girl students of government schools through the volunteers and female teachers.
NIRDPR focuses on creating awareness on health and menstrual hygiene with sociological and environmental issues and removing the stigma associated with menstruation among rural adolescent girls.
“We are keen to invest, ensuring the hygiene and clean environment. The project would yield expected results and positive impact in line with the objectives” the report said quoting the official.
