Poonam Pandey, the model and actress who rose to fame with her bold and provocative online posts, has died of cervical cancer at the age of 32. Her manager confirmed the news to the media on Friday morning, saying that she breathed her last at her residence in Uttar Pradesh.

A post on her Instagram account announced her death

The news of her demise was first shared on her official Instagram account, which has over 1.3 million followers. The post read, “This morning is a tough one for us. Deeply saddened to inform you that we have lost our beloved Poonam to cervical cancer. Every living form that ever came in contact with her was met with pure love and kindness. In this time of grief, we would request for privacy while we remember her fondly for all that we shared.”

She was diagnosed with cervical cancer a few months ago

According to sources, Pandey was diagnosed with cervical cancer a few months ago and was undergoing treatment. Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that affects the cervix, the lower part of the uterus that connects to the vagina. It is caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), a common infection that is transmitted through sexual contact. Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women worldwide, and the second most common in India.

She made her Bollywood debut with Nasha in 2013

Pandey started her career as a model and participated in the Gladrags Manhunt and Megamodel Contest in 2010. She gained popularity for her promise to strip if the Indian cricket team won the 2011 World Cup, which she later did not fulfill. She made her Bollywood debut with the erotic thriller Nasha in 2013, directed by Amit Saxena. She also acted in a few Telugu and Kannada films, such as Malini & Co. and Love Is Poison. She was last seen in the web series Honeymoon Suite Room No 911, which was released in 2020.

A controversial and bold persona

Pandey made her Bollywood debut with the erotic thriller Nasha in 2013, directed by Amit Saxena. She also appeared in some Telugu and Kannada films, such as Malini & Co. and Love Is Poison. She was known for her controversial and bold persona, which often landed her in trouble with the law and the moral police. She faced several cases of obscenity and indecency for her online content and public appearances.

Pandey was also involved in a domestic violence case with her husband Sam Bombay, whom she married in September 2020. The couple had filed complaints against each other in Goa, but later reconciled.

A silent battle with cervical cancer

According to her manager, Pandey was diagnosed with cervical cancer, a type of cancer that affects the lower part of the uterus, about two years ago. She underwent treatment at a private hospital in Mumbai, but her condition deteriorated in the last few months. She breathed her last at her residence in Uttar Pradesh, where she had gone to spend some time with her family.

Cervical cancer is caused by persistent infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV), a common sexually transmitted infection. It is the fourth most common cancer in women globally, with an estimated 604,000 new cases and 342,000 deaths in 2020. The highest rates of cervical cancer incidence and mortality are in low- and middle-income countries, where access to vaccination, screening and treatment services is limited.

Cervical cancer can be prevented by prophylactic vaccination against HPV and screening and treatment of pre-cancer lesions. It can also be cured if diagnosed at an early stage and treated promptly. However, many women are unaware of the symptoms and risk factors of the disease, and face barriers to seeking health care.

A legacy of courage and controversy

Pandey’s death has left a void in the industry and among her fans, who admired her for her courage and controversy. She was one of the most searched celebrities on the internet, and had a huge following on social media platforms. She also launched her own app and website, where she posted exclusive content for her subscribers.

Pandey will be remembered as a woman who lived life on her own terms, and did not shy away from expressing her sexuality and opinions. She was also a philanthropist, who supported various causes such as animal welfare, women empowerment and environmental protection.
