Philips Lighting’s safe disposal program is being launched across India and these specially designed disposal bags will be available at several Philips Lighting Bandhan retailers in the country over the next few months.

NEW DELHI: Philips Lighting (Euronext Amsterdam ticker: LIGHT), a global leader in lighting, accelerated its sustainability initiatives in India with the launch of its CFL and Tubelight safe disposal program. An extension of the company’s global sustainability program ‘Brighter Lives, Better World’, this program aims to educate consumers in India about responsible waste management through safe disposal of lighting products that contain mercury.
Taking forward the Government’s Swachh Bharat program, this one-of-its-kind initiative by Philips Lighting encourages consumers to protect their environment by disposing off their used CFL lamps and tubelights in specially designed collection bags located at their nearest Philips Lighting retail store.
Talking about the sustainability initiatives of the company in India, Harshavardhan Chitale, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Philips Lighting India said, “Philips Lighting fully supports and endorses the Swachh Bharat program and we are delighted to accelerate our sustainability initiatives in India with this program. As a global leader in lighting, we want to create awareness about responsible and safe disposal of lighting products that contain mercury. Using our specially designed disposal bags, consumers can now safely dispose-off their used CFL bulbs and tubelights at their nearest Philips Lighting retailer and contribute towards creating a sustainable environment.”
Philips Lighting’s safe disposal program is being launched across India and these specially designed disposal bags will be available at several Philips Lighting Bandhan retailers in the country over the next few months. To further spread awareness about sustainability amongst consumers, Philips Lighting is also reaching out to schools, colleges and Resident Welfare Associations to educate them about energy efficiency and safe disposal of mercury containing lighting products.
The program is a local extension of Philips Lighting’s global sustainability program ‘Brighter Lives, Better World’ and reflects the company’s commitment to the universally agreed United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals for affordable and clean energy, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production as well as climate action.
