NEW DELHI: In a major announcement, India’s national industry chamber PHD has announced support to the government’s ambitious Namami Gange programme to rejuvenate the holy river Ganga. The announcement was made by Anil Khaitan, President, PHD Chamber.
PHD Chamber will form a task force and Ganga river adoption programme to lead this initiative which will identify tracks of the river Ganga which the industry body can adopt as part of the government’s campaign.
Khaitan made this announcement after an appeal made by Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation.
Addressing the Managing Committee of the PHD Chamber, Meghwal had appealed to the industry to adopt parts of the holy river and help in the government’s Ganga rejuvenation programme.
“This is a big responsibility but it is an excellent idea and PHD Chamber is proud to announce its active collaboration of the Ganga rejuvenation programme. We will get our members to join hands on this unique initiative and promise full support to the government,” said Anil Khaitan, President, PHD Chamber.
PHD Chamber has additionally announced that it will also help in cleaning up the Yamuna river which flows through the national capital and is the lifeline of the citizens of Delhi. Besides, the industry chamber has announced a river ghat adoption campaign, under which PHD members will identify river ghats in key cities to renovate them and bring them at par with international standards.
