NEW DELHI: The Neyveli Lignite Corporation has bagged the BT (Bureaucracy Today) Star PSU For Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility Award (Maharatna and Navaratna Category).
The award, given in recognition of its commitment and continuous engagement with the communities towards empowering their development for a sustainable growth was presented at ‘BT-PSU Excellence Awards (2015) Presentation Ceremony; at New Delhi recently.
Ram Shankar Katheria, Minister of State for HRD, presented the award to B. Surender Mohan CMD, NLC, in the presence of A.K. Singh, Lieutenant Governor, Puducherry and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The awards have been constituted by the journal BT to celebrate the excellence and to recognise the best practices and contribution of the Indian PSUs.
The CSR initiatives, for which the NLC bagged the honour, included the construction of 2500 toilets across 27 districts in Tamil Nadu and two districts in Rajasthan at an outlay of Rs. 52.5 crore during 2015, and the ‘Jala Paryaptha’ project that envisages augmentation of water resources for irrigation in NLC’s operating region that has involved desilting of Wallajah Lake to benefit 60 villages and 11,500 acres of arable land.
